Rear Brake Disc questions
« on: 02 April 2025, 21:56 »
Evening all.
I know this has been done to the death but after a search I couldn't find anything...
I'm looking to replace the rear discs and pads on my 2017 non-pp GTi.

I believe the discs are 300mm diameter x 12mm thick. Is that correct?

Bonus question! Can the discs be replaced without taking of the caliper mounting brackets?

I'm looking at the TRW discs from Autodoc, as the black painted centres look better than the oem parts.

TIA!

I’m going to have a bit of a dry run on this tomorrow.  I’ll take the wheel off and have a measure up before I commit to buying any parts.
Life will be so much simpler if the disc comes off without having to take the caliper mount off!

Non pp mk7 rear discs are 272mm and are a solid disc, not vented, but as a 2017 it’s a mk7.5 so could well be 300mm

Thanks Carbon. I think that’s why a good check over and a measure up tomorrow will be a wise idea before I buy anything!

The rear discs are shaped in such a way you should be able to remove them without removing the caliper carrier.

They can be a real pain to remove as the multi spline bolts are normally rusted up and tight.

I did my daughters Polo BlueGT a while back and didn't have to remove the carrier to replace the discs.

I can confirm that my car; a late 2017 non-pp GTi, does indeed have 300 x 12 discs and those discs can be taken off without having to remove the Caliper Mount - hallelujah!

Parts now ordered from AutoDoc.
