Golf GTi Mk 7.5

Hi, hoping for some help with an intermittent issue.

The issue is, when I've used the car for about 20-30 minutes, then switch engine off, leave for 10 minutes or more. Next time I start the engine, for a very brief period there is an engine smell inside the car. It's not fuel but more of an exhaust smell.

It doesn't do this every time, only if the engine has previously been warmed up, and seems to get worse the more you stop/start and do several journeys in a few hours. If I use it once to get to work (15-20 mins, you don't smell anything at all).

Had the injectors cleaned and resealed about a month ago as they were 'weeping'. Plus new injector rail. Garage has checked and said it is nothing to do with that and they can't see anything wrong. They were not able to smell anything when starting it up and switching off several times.

Really like my GTi and can't really trade it in at the moment.

For info, its done just over 50k miles.

Thanks in advance for any help at all

I had a similar issue but more of a petrol smell, some spirited driving rather than my usual Miss Daisy manner and stopped brimming the tank - stopping adding fuel on the first click, the smell seems to have disappeared 🤞🤞
