Mk7 has been purchased
« on: 26 January 2025, 19:00 »
Evening guys,

So after a few cars looked at, I've now purchased my car and collect it on Wednesday morning.

I've bought a Red Mk7 GTI, 5 Door, DSG, PP, with heated cloth interior, upgraded VW infotainemnt system, with Full VWSH and 1 previous owner. The service history is impeccable and also has a service plan with it, until 2026.

Not sure how I'll transfer that over, if I can at all.

I'm very excited, though the car does need a refurb on the front alloys, from corrosion. So a diamond cut refresh is needed.

Otherwise it's in mint condition.

Question about DashCam's though. Has anyone hard wired, into the fuse box with taps, and if so, which fuse did you tap off of?

Is fuse 40 an option. I want switchable live rather than constant live.

Thanks.

Wayne.

Hi. Congrats on the purchase. I tapped into the fuse board on my MK 7.5 when I had it - just ran through fuses until I found one that wasn’t perminant live. However, if you have a Nextbase dashcam, you can use Parking Mode with perminant live which will automatically deactivate after 5 mins of inactivity, but reactivate if it detects your car has been knocked whilst parked.

In my 8.5, I have opted to power it from the ODB2 port with a dedicated cable from Nextbase and in parking mode.

The Nextbase will also power down if it detects your car battery falls to a certain level.

Thanks guys,

Getting the train to Bristol from Chelmsford, and hoping for a cracking drive home.

I'll be popping to DMS automotive, in the coming weeks to for a stage 1, and that's where it'll stay. Just want a little extra punch, and flexibility.

It drove so well. I wasn't sure what to expect, but given it's heritage, and die hard following, I wasn't disappointed.

It may need the maps updated, as it has the SD card with it, but unsure when it was last done. Guessing that won't be cheap through VW.

If I can get my images correct, i'll post up some pictures Wednesday evening....

congratulations on your purchase!

On the service plan, I previously purchased a Gti that was newer which had the service pack from new, as this was paid up in advance I was able to use it as the new owner.
The service plans are with VW financial services, rather than a specific dealer usually, so you can service it at a VW dealer near to you.

However, I currently have a 2 years service pack which I pay monthly. This can only be transferrred to a new owner if it is fully paid up, when i enquired VW would not let the new owner take over the monthly payment.
In the paper work there should be an invoice for the service pack, you can always call VW financial services with the contract number to confirm the status if there is any doubt.

Good luck..

Cool. Once I get all the book packs together, I'll see what the score is. It was a previous VW employee company car, so maybe it's been paid up (Fingers crossed)

On the subject of oil - Is 5W-30 the oil of choice. Looking on Opie's, it's either Castrol or Mobil1 for me. It won't be longlife servicing either. It's been serviced every 10,000 miles, so I'm happy to continue this.

Also, is this silica bag thing, an issue on petrol cars? I have no idea if my tank has the wording on it, that i've been reading about.

If it is 2016+ with the MIB2 head unit, don;t bother with the map update, just get Android Auto (or Apple Carplay) enabled. You'll never use the built on maps.
Then grab a cheap wireless adaptor from Aliexpress etc and you don't even need to worry about connecting your phone!
