MK8.5 Steering Wheel fit on the mk8?
« on: 18 October 2024, 20:49 »
Not sure if anyones been able to try this yet but thoughts on the likelihood the 8.5 wheel would fit on an 8 as a straight bolt on with all buttons working?

Probably needs some coding but AFAIK the new one is basically the steering wheel the Mk8 R line had...

Personally I don't have a problem with the haptic buttons.  It hasn't caused any issues (except the bongs issue which was resolved with a new part) and once or twice when I've accidentally switched the heated wheel on.

I certainly wouldn't go through the hassle and expense of replacing it with the new one.

I’d say you’d only need the buttons part. The rest of the wheel is exactly the same. Whether it’d be plug and play though, who knows.

If it helps, I’ve recently fitted R DSG paddles to a new 8.5 GTI. The process was almost exactly the same as it was in the MK8. The wiring / connections behind the buttons looked the same as it was on the MK8.

Worth a punt for the money if that's what you want to do. Should be an easy swap.

BTW is your idea here that you hate the haptics (you do get used to them...) or the bloody bong problem the Mk8 had?

If its the latter, its not to do with the buttons.... and the button swap wouldn't fix it.

It's the haptics really, I'm really used to using my mk7 buttons without looking and the haptics look a bit naff in that respect.
