I understand there’s lots of moving parts to getting a car built.  But this was a car already slated for build by VW, and the dealer was picking one from a bunch that should in theory have then been prioritised for build as there was a customer waiting on it.

Now if VW say it’s all a bit too complex for me to understand, and my order could be anything from 1-6 months then I’d tell them to stick it before placing an order.  But 12 weeks was a worst case when ordering. I was assured it would be quicker as it normally is.  So I took my chance and ordered expecting to get it November at some point and definitely this side of Xmas.

Currently mulling it over, but erring on the side of cancelling and sticking with the MK8 for a bit longer or trying to get a stock car from a dealer that already has one if there is such a thing.

I’m not sure where abouts you are, but there are some stock cars available, here’s one the same as you ordered.

So there obviously is a further mechanism which is to do with order priority on top of what I said... Brand new model, dealers getting batches of stock and others ordering custom builds for customers etc etc Some dealers will have priority, some countries will have priority etc etc

Basically until your order gets to "build week confirmed" (which will be 2 weeks ahead of the week when its actually built) nobody will tell you anything about when you might get your car.

Ask the dealer what the factory status is for the order, if its not "build week confirmed" then they really have been telling you porkies about when it is expected because literally nobody knows (well nobody in the UK anyway)

Oh and expect about 2-4 weeks from the end of the build week and when it maybe arrives in the UK.

Excellent!  Looking forward to seeing the car.
What are your initial impressions? (I’m asking for Joe! 😁)

In the 1 mile trip home (lol) there is something definitely more premium about it that I can’t put my finger on why. It’s not a major leap forward, just a nice step. Maybe it’s the bigger/better infotainment and the slight tweaks around the car.

I was concerned it was going to feel exactly the same as the 8, so wasn’t that excited about picking it up but there are quite a few tiny differences that make it a noticeable step up.

Was also concerned how big the screen was and if it would look silly and get in the way, but it’s actually totally fine and fits in nicely.

Very happy with the new wheel choice, the Warmenau, in person they look so much better, very premium looking I feel.

Only negative on the new looks in the front bumper, now the radar/safety sensors are down the bumper it spoils the clean look for me.

Maybe a little early to ask about driving dynamics then!

Are yours the black or polished Warmenau?
They look a bit fiddly to clean but the style of them is .
Do they still have that channel behind the spokes like nearly all other mk7 and mk8 era alloys?

The radar placement isn’t as neat at the mk8 admittedly but I’m sure after a while you don’t really look at it. A bit like the vents on one side and not the other. You kind of get used to seeing it and it ceases to register.

Frustrating. Been there myself more than once.
If the discount was really good then it’s worth sitting it out. Failing that there are a number of in stock cars around the country and a handful on VW’s stock search that are due at dealers very soon.

The initial rush of cars at launch seems to be sliding back towards VW’s Continental drift like wait times.

Yes! still only done a couple of miles, hardly seen it in daylight yet!

I've got the black Warmenau, not sure about the channel, will have a look when I clean then as yes you're right they are going to be a nightmare to keep clean.

I think the 8.5 is a little quieter from the exhaust, or maybe it just needs more miles on it to open it up. My Clubsport 8 used to pop like a gun... maybe too much as could be embarrassing in multi story car parks

I don’t think I ever noticed my Clubsport do exhaust pops except when starting it up when already warm.
I can’t say I’ve ever noticed my R pop either. It must be me, I must drive like an old lady, spent too much time being stuck behind them I now drive like one.

I can get mine to pop/bang fairly regularly! In Sport mode, 3rd gear at around 3.5k revs, ease off the throttle and it’ll “pop” on the over run.

Same, I noticed you have to put it back in race eveytime you start though, even if it starts in race, it’s a weird quirk for some reason. I’ll see what happens with the new club sport after it’s run in a bit more but the oops are currently quieter = happy wife.
