I’ve just chased the dealer as not heard a peep since I ordered on 8th Sept.  Been told it’s still status 10,
So not moved since I ordered it.  From what I see on the order statuses, this means it’s not even got a confirmed build date.  Not impressed.

Much unrest in the German factories and no doubt plenty going on unpublicised behind the scenes

Mine was delayed by a month from when I ordered on the same date as you.  Dealer reckons it will be built on the last week of November now.  Delivery by end of January.

They’ll be in more bother if they can’t fulfill the ordered they’ve already got.  I’ve been in VWs for a long time now and the shonky quality on the MK8 had me unsure about jumping into the MK8.5.  This has got me thinking again. Just not sure what else is worth considering.

I agree that there is not much else available.  Did consider a BMW M440i, but wasn't sure.  Lack of choice now and I certainly have no desire for an electric car.

This makes it even more odd that my car arrived just 10 weeks after ordering on the 10th August!? They told me it would be a minimum of 20weeks, so I was expecting it in late December or early January, or maybe later still, the dealership was quite frankly amazed how quickly it got built and shipped, and were still mentioning that when I collected it, the sales guy did also mention that VW appear to be pushing some 8.5 orders back to the second quarter next year! But they’ve also had several GTI’s delivered in double quick time, so who knows, it appears to be a bit of a roulette based on chosen dealer and their allocations, spec chosen, and date of order. 🤷‍♂️ I can honestly say though, that the 8.5 GTI is (in my opinion) head and shoulders above the 8 in most ways, and is worth the wait. Once mine moved beyond Status 10 it progressed really quickly, so fingers crossed @Colh. 🤞

You’d think they’d be running extra shifts and pulling out all the stops to get cars ordered and built to stave off the worst of the financial issues. I guess it doesn’t help they get penalised for not selling enough % of EV’s despite the lack of demand. They’re in a bit of a lose lose position in some respects.
