Rocky road
« on: 21 August 2024, 21:31 »
Driving home today along a 50mph road, a rock bigger than my fist fell out the back of a lorry driving in the opposite direction. Unfortunately I wasn't able to dodge it, so unfortunately it smashed through the driver's side fog light and front of the wheel arch. Could have been much worse mind..!

Photos hopefully show the extent of the damage, thankfully it seems everything still works fine, even the smashed fog light. No smells or signs of anything leaking.

Wondering if anyone has any idea on cost of repairs/replacements. Is this worth going to VW for? Would it be easy enough to fix myself? If so, any help with part numbers etc would be appreciated!

Have you got a dash cam? This happened to my wife in her Passat. A large block of wood fell off a lorry travelling towards her. She couldn't avoid it and it broke her front bumper and snapped a coil spring. I was able to identify the lorry from her footage and we contacted the company who agreed to pay for all the repairs. They were keen not to involve the Police as anything falling off a lorry is classed as an insecure load and carries a very substantial fine and penalty points!

Sadly not, it did happen very close to a pub. Managed to speak to someone there who said he'd check to see if it could be seen on the CCTV, so fingers crossed for that..!

Don’t know of a few of the parts but the black grill is only £19, as I had to replace mine before and was pleasantly surprised. Bare in mind though they are a bumper off job to fix.

I bought a genuine fog light which was about £230, I did consider a pattern one but thought best to keep genuine to match

Cheers Jason
