Paint flaking

Away from the car at moment but found this which looks the same:

When I first read these posts I thought the reference to flaking was along the bonnet trailing edge, but the actual area is in such a weird place? Assume there’s no trim touching the area etc? Makes you wonder if there was a defect in the process of painting the bonnet?

Maybe, or perhaps the bonnet has been repainted or replaced and that section wasn’t prepped correctly prior to (re)painting.

I checked mine this AM, looks ok but the quality of the finish isn’t brilliant. Good luck with getting it sorted and let us know how you get on with it.

At least the mk7.5 is painted under the bonnet. Current generation cars are left in the primered state; picture below is of a current generation Polo GTI engine compartment. Car is Kings Red but engine compartment and underside of bonnet is grey primer .

Just an update for anyone interested.

As expected VW not interested in covering it. However dealership agreed it wasn’t a good look so agreed to sort it and cover the cost.

End result all done now!
