Japanese Golfs
« on: 21 July 2024, 16:03 »
I'm from Ireland and I'm looking at getting a Mk7 Gti 2013-2015 from Japan mainly due to the price and most here seem to be modified.
Most Gtis there seem to have 17 or 18inch Austins (17s aren't diamond cut) larger screen infotainment and nit much else in the way of extras.
Occasionally some have DCC and the performance pack seems to be rare.
What extras are worth holding out for does the PP diff make a difference during day to day driving on wet roads?

My last Golf was a mk5 tdi and I had a 150bhp tdi CC until a month ago.

I’ve done 40000 miles in my non PP Mk7 GTI, obv driven all conditions, the car is faultless, never missed bigger brakes etc.
Watch out for Jap spec, I think they may also have manual handbrake, no electric, could be wrong.

Yes the German spec GTIs offered 17 inch alloys, I wouldn’t worry too much, as diamond cut are nice, but a pain if they get white worm, they need pro refurb. Mine have all had to be refurbished, it’s par for the course.

The PP diff makes a huge difference if you plan to drive spiritedly, absolutely worth getting one with. It changes the whole dynamic of the car. If you just plane to potter around and don’t plan on driving quickly, I’d suggest another golf rather than a GTI since they offer a better proposition for the same price. You can get a lower mileage one with a good spec that’s newer.
