19” Adalaides Wheels now Refurbed
« on: 02 July 2024, 06:40 »
Has anyone any pictures of MK8 GTI Adalaides wheels refurbished in one colour, ie in gunmetal or black. As thinking of getting mine refurbed as I have a few marks on them, but don’t want them diamond cut anymore.

I don’t have any pictures, but if it was me, I’d be choosing between a shade of grey (mid-anthracite, or gunmetal) or smoked chrome.

If you wanted to keep the appearance of diamond cut alloys without the associated hassle of issues such as white worm corrosion, some alloy wheel refurbishers can produce a two tone powder coat finish to mimic the appearance of a diamond cut alloy - see discussion topics at the links below;

Yea I am swaying towards a grey shade like my old Mk7 GTD, I had the wheels done Audi Grey. I really like the Ferric Grey colour and think they would make the Adalaides look good. Originally I was going to go gloss black but feel the alloys will look lost

Ferric Grey looks good, but then I might be biased as the aftermarket alloys on my Polo GTI+ are Ferric Grey (matt finish) :grin:.

I’m not a big fan of gloss black alloys - like you’ve said, they can look lost as the gloss black ‘hides’ the detail of the wheel design unless you’re close up to the car. Additionally gloss black is susceptible to showing swirl marks, and other than when they’ve just been washed, they tend to take on a dull brown-ish appearance from brake dust deposits.

When you’ve had your alloys refurbished and they’re back on your car, please put some pictures up on the forum.

I think Ferric Grey is the colour that will work best with the Adelaide’s as then you can see the detail in the wheel. Will get some pics up once there done, hopefully get it booked in and have them sorted by the end of the month. Also have you any pics of your alloys in Ferric grey Matt?

That grey looks great as you can see all the detail of the wheels. It’s between this grey and shadow chrome. Got the car booked in for August with Powdertek_ni here in N.Ireland used these guys for my MK7 GTD, and the wheels after 4 years still looked great with there powder coating.

Now just to pick the right grey 😂

Thanks. I’ve still got the OEM diamond cut alloys (18” Brescias on the Polo GTI+) - they’ll be going back on the car when the time comes to sell it.

I think I remember you posting over on golfmk7.com forum a few years ago just after you got your (Pure White?) mk7 GTD. Good to hear the durability of your powder coated Nogaro alloys held up well.

Yea those wheels lasted really well on the pure white MK7 GTD. I remember the colour was called Audi Grey, nice colour but the same company don’t do that colour anymore. But have to say there powder coat on those wheels lasted the whole time I had the car.

Bit of an update wheels left off a few days ago and just been sent a pic From the Powdertek_NI. Colour I went for from the recommendation from Chris @ Powdertek_NI was Mazda Black, "at 1st I was like Black" but he said its not, so he showed me samples and I was like ok lets go with this. Can't wait to get them back and fitted  :cool:
