Sorry to hear this!  I know first hand what you mean by “gutted is an understatement”.

My CS45 was stollen at 2 months old, I hated it every time someone said “at least it’s only a car, they’re replaceable”. Yeah I replaced it…. Eventually. But now I’m always on edge when I hear of another theft in the area. There were two cars stolen from next door to each other, in the same night, in our town a few months ago!

The insurance will be a nuisance, check your courtesy car T&Cs. I think mine was 7 days after pay out, or 28 days total, whichever came first. It was rubbish and forced you in to rushing things. I was fortunate, my mum and dad have an old Picasso for taking the dogs out in, so I insured that for a few months. Horrible car, but I’m grateful, it’s an auto too

Also, don’t accept their first offer, I used auto trader to prove the cars value, it was simpler for me though, the CS45 was new and there was about 5 for sale. Good luck with this is all I can say. It’s disgusting, you pay a fortune for insurance nowadays then they treat you so badly when you need to use it!

Sad news joet.
I hate reading these type of threads.
We work hard to afford and maintain these cars in mint condition and they can be gone in a flash.
Even worse is the violation of the personal sanctuary of the home. Thankfully nobody physically harmed but mental scars will linger.

Really sh*t to hear this, sorry it happened mate, very unfair that we work hard for nice things only for them to be taken by scum in a seconds. Like folks have said, glad no one was hurt etc, that's the main thing to focus on.
Can i ask did you have your primary user protected by S-Pin active at all?

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. I wish I could say it's getting easier to deal with, but it's not. Particularly the fact they were in my house and violated my safe space. No news from the police say all. There's a surprise.

I didn't have the S-Pin active because it was a pain. Another lesson learnt

Sorry to hear about the theft of a loved GTI. Hurts.  Hope Insurance side sorts smoothly and your life restores with some comfort.  Back on the horse has some appeal.  All best wishes.

So a quick update on my stolen car.

As expected, it has not been recovered and the insurance have paid up. TBH, a lot more than I was expecting, which was a nice surprise. So now looking to replace it.

I popped in to my local dealer and they had an 8.5 GTI in the showroom. I must admit, the changes are subtle, but very effective. The rear lights look particularly good, and the front is much improved - reminds me of my 8 Clubsport. Even the Richmond wheels are not as offensive in the metal. And the infotaintment screen is not as bad as the photos out there would suggest. It does not obstruct the view in any way and it's much sharper and much more intuitive. The sliders for temp/volume are now SO much easier to use. Hopefully the bugs will have been fixed as well with the new software.

So all in all I think the standard GTI is now quite a compelling option, especially with the increase in power. I would not have swapped my Clubsport for one, but given the situation I think I'm going to go for a bog standard GTI with just Moonstone paint to keep it under the dreaded £40K. I took a couple of pics of the car in the showroom which was Dolphin Grey.

Would they not do you a deal for that showroom car joet?
There are quite a few en route to dealers, base spec, various colours if you look on VW UK’s website and no doubt a few more already in showrooms. Work through all the dealerships until you grind out a deal.
