Another Clubsport disappears...
« on: 26 June 2024, 17:35 »
So, having had my CS for three years from new, and having lavished much time and care on it, it has now been stolen.

A familiar tale. Someone broke into my house in the middle of the night whilst we slept upstairs, took the keys and the car was gone. I happened to wake up not long after they took it, and immediately called the police. They had a hit on it on an ANPR camera about 20 minutes away they said, but after that, no trace. I tried to locate it in the VW app but they had disabled that so I couldn't see it.

Another car (a performance Audi) was stolen in the same way around the same time just down the road. Clearly professionals. I have no hope it will ever be recovered. Even if it is, I'm not sure I would want it back since god knows how they've treated it.

To say I'm gutted is an understatement. The car was mint, with only 20K miles on it. Ceramic coating. Two new tyres. And after many visits to the dealers, it had been bong-free for a few months and I was really enjoying driving it more than ever. My plan was to keep it for a few years more, but I don't know what to do now.

I'm reluctant to replace it with another used one, since I could end up with a (software) bug-ridden one, with potentially no warranty, and I don't want to risk it. There's no way I will be able to afford a new one when the 8.5 Clubsport is released. And there's nothing much out there that appeals given my budget. So time to reflect I think.

That's terrible Joet. It's sad to hear but you can't do anything about it when it happens like that.  It wouldn't have mattered if you had a Rolls or a Lada, if they break into your house and take your keys the car is gone.

I'm just glad you are uninjured.  A car can be replaced but your health cannot.

Thank you. And you are absolutely right. It is only a car and I'm very thankful that nobody got hurt.

Also had a car stolen in the past mate truly terrible experience.
Mine was not taken from home thou.

Prepair yourself for the hassle of the insurance claim etc now!

They won't pay you for I think 6 weeks in case it is found and you can’t use your current insurance bonus to
Insure a run around if you get one. Because you bonus / policy is still on the stolen one.
Did they snap the door lock off to gain entry to the house?

Get them all changed to good antisnap locks.

Always turn on the downstairs zone on your house alarm every night (amazing how many have alarms on house but don't do this)
Did you have cctv?

Makes me so angry these bastards keep getting away with this with no convictions and the police never even bother to do anything, just give you a crime number.

Ypu also end up having to pay a big increase on you policy for the next 5 years.

This is where a ghost or similar would of saved your car.

Always try and fit some additional security if you can as everyone always thinks it will never happen to them ( I did)

Hope you get another mate and some awful happens to people who took it!!

Nightmare, sadly lots of car thefts around our way😢😔
When I got my GTI, I had a retractable parking post fitted plus a tracker and immobiliser that I can operate from my phone and a disklock, worth considering in my opinion (though I’m still paranoid, even more so now as it gets older and more irreplaceable on a like for like basis)

Hope you get sorted as quickly and painlessly as possible👍

They got in through a window, which was locked, but they somehow managed to break the the lock and prised it open. Cearly I need to improve them. They obviously knew what they were doing. All the door locks are very good quality according to the police, so they found the weakest point and entered that way. No alarm sadly, but I'm going to invest in one after this.

It's a horrible experience. And yes, I have already encountered the insurance bureaucracy. Amongst one the many things they want is pictures of the damage to the window. I mean, wtf, the police crime report has all of that, so just look in there!

Thanks. I will definitely look at all of those things in the future. I live in a very quiet, low crime area so I just didn't think it would happen here. How naive I was!

The worst part is the people really do not give a f*ck, saw a video other day of bike trying to be stolen with angle grinder as owners were shouting down at them from the window, they could not get through the chain, so they calmly walked to the car and put the windows in of the car with a hammer, as a complete f*ck you to owners and hopped on the pillion, and was off,  and amongst themselves, its a badge of honour, something they can all laugh at, I am really speechless at times to the mentality, and only answer would ever is for zero tolerance, hard crackdown, which could be done, but as we know it will never happen,

So, sorry to hear that, we all love our cars, work hard to afford our pleasures, and we all feel it when read this.

The MK 8 has caused me a dilemma, always wanted to move up to one from MK 7.5 but software lemon is too much of a risk, so for me its MK 7.5 all the way until my ££ stretch to MK8.5 which really like.

Think the MK 8.5 will squeeze MK 7.5 prices down to £22500 for a good low mileage, decent spec Golf R and as time moves on its easy to forget what a great car that is, we have 2019 R and absolutely love driving it, so might be your middle ground, and though still open to target, they have less resale value in them, so the newer ones are more attractive.

Wow this is sad to hear. insurance companies never give you enough to replace it properly. They are always worth more than they are willing to pay. I know someone who managed to convince Vodafone or VW can’t remember to track their id3 when it was stolen. They did find it and get it back after informing the police where it was.
