Emissions Control Light

Anyone had their emissions control light come on? On my S3 its never been on before, then the car goes in for its first service and comes back to me with the light on. 10 days to book a service, 10 weeks to get back in to fix under warranty (they seemingly don't want the warranty work).

Car went back in for the fix, untouched until 3:30pm, and "fixed" at 4:20pm. Apparently although the dipstick was in place, the seal had dried out, allowing air to be drawn in and affect the sensor. Sounded like absolute bollocks to me. The amount of air that the dried out seal could draw in will be miniscule. Throttle body apparently recoded too. Drove home (2 miles) and the light is back on - back to the dealership tomorrow, they won't make me wait another 10 weeks thankfully. Just feel like the bullsh!tted me after not touching my car all day and wanting to pass it back.

From the fault code I got from OBD11, the MAF sensor and another related to fuelling (I forget the name) talk to each other and one has thrown implausible responses, the dealership disagreed at the time it went in.

I reset the light a few times and it would stay off for a single long journey (240 miles Newcastle to Milton Keynes) - done that a few times this month, but comes on and stays on after a long journey.

Anyone had this on their Golf and what was the fix? Presuming new sensors.

I had this issue on my Golf R 20 Years and it took weeks for them to sort the issue out as each time the car went in they would reset it or replace something, sensors, harnesses etc so they thought they had fixed it but then the light would reappear again the following day or after a short period. They managed to track the fault down in the end after having the car for almost 4 weeks. They replaced the servo pump as they thought that was the issue but the fault came straight back on after a short drive so they replaced the solenoid on the servo pump and the fault has not reappeared after a few months. Not sure if that’s your issue but maybe if you mention this to them it may save you some time and the pain of having to leave your car with VW for a long period. Good luck with getting it sorted.

You can mention all you like but unless the VAG computer says "do this" they won't do anything because that is how VW pay the dealer for the warranty work.

I had a VW dealer mechanic tell me that straight out - you can't use your own brain and fault find, its guided fault find by the "clever" VAG computer.

Its why I spent 3 years (!!!!) trying to solve the bloody bong problem - because until it was a solution the computer suggested they couldn't have done it if they had wanted to!

That’s probably the reason it took so long for them to sort my car. Hopefully there is now a fix for it and Monkeyhanger can get his car sorted.👍🏻

I'll mention Davey-C's story and hope they take it into consideration, but Fred is probably right that they always follow what the computer tells them to. I don't think it's coincidence that this fault code was logged during the first service - they've disturbed or messed with something. They did manage to use about 2 gallons of my fuel when they last had it, but the car did 2 miles in their care - presumably it was sat there ticking over for an age while they worked on it.

Car went back in Thurs night to be worked on yesterday. There is a "valve stroke" sensor they had to test, test came back fine but they have to replace anyway, expecting tgat part in today to fit on Monday - that's what the computer is telling them to do for the fix. I guess I'll wait and see if I get my car back on Monday.

Fingers crossed they can sort it for you. As you say it sounds like they are following a set process, similar to what they carried out on my car.

Officially, my paperwork says air pressure sensor switch replaced. Have only driven the car home 2 miles and the light isn't back on yet.

They have managed to use half a tank of fuel when the car was driven just 3 miles in their care. Aircon set to "LO" and fan speed high with no recirc, so presumably the clowns have had the car ticking over for hours with the aircon working hard throughout while working on the car.

Good news the light is off and had stayed off. Hopefully that’s it sorted and no more visits to VW.🤞🏻🤞🏻
