I did wonder what the origin of Daisy’s name was - thanks for explaining. The only time I’ve ever called a car of mine anything has been if it’s gone wrong / broken down, so the Vauxhall Viva HC I owned in the 1970’s got called many things!

Ah Asker………(forum name am1w I think); that’s a name I remember from the past. He was definitely a character . I remember he had a mk6 GTI in Tornado Red that I’m sure he would have named but I can’t remember what its name was. He later changed the mk6 GTI for a mk7 R, also in Tornado Red - I think he may have had a 3 series BMW for a time after the GTI and before the R.

The car wasn’t intended to actually have a name, I thought it might be a bit of an icebreaker to introduce the fact I’d shunned a GTI  :lipsrsealed:

It was Asker’s insistence all the mk6’s had names! It took me a while to remember but “Wolfgang” was his mk6.
The BMW was an Estoril(?) blue 330d

Nice one Exonian! I was sure it would be a CS! Great choice anyway. Please post some pics
It very nearly was! Toss of a coin really.

Some rubbish shots taken on pick up day.
I’m not big on photographing cars, wish I was better at it, the angles always look pants or the lighting is all wrong.

The black edition is a great standard spec, DCC is the only extra "required" and I fully get the visual thing.  19" wheels and the rear spolier all standard, combined with the blacked out parts, gives the car the "clout" that is required to make it perfect.  Enjoy.

Thanks Trev, what’s your new one’s spec?

The DCC was the one thing I was really against going for as I hated it on my TCR, so I’m looking forward to seeing how I get on with it. Would’ve swapped it for HK and area view in a heartbeat.

I was thinking of the River Aller in Wolfgburg running through your veins Exonian.  I didn't even know there was one in Somerset.

Good to see the new toy.

You can't beat a performance Golf in white.

Looks great @Exonian . Agree with @BillSan; white is the best colour for a performance Golf.

Your picture of your Estoril alloy triggered my OCD alarm  . I’d have to break with tradition and have the tyre valve stem align with the top - rather than the bottom - of the ‘R’ logo on the centre cap, so it’s oriented the same way as the small ‘R’ badge on the rim of the wheel.

It was Asker’s insistence all the mk6’s had names! It took me a while to remember but “Wolfgang” was his mk6.

That’s it - Asker’s mk6 was called Wolfgang! I seem to remember he had a bit of an obsession with panel gaps and nothing less than millimetre perfect was acceptable.

Lapiz/Black two tone, Warmenaus, dcc, pano roof, akra and area view.  The white with the contrasting black gloss looks great.  I'm a fan of dcc on the 8.5, loads of adjustment, it will be interesting to see what your thoughts are once you've lived with it for a while.

As you know, I have a bit of a thing for white Golfs… 😁

The ‘upside-down’ opposing R thingy bugs me too!
I’ll try and find a puller to remove the centre cap so I can re-orientate it when it stops raining.
I just spent 15 minutes removing the rear window dealer sticker between showers.

And yes, Asker did indeed obsess about the small but important details of fit and finish to the minutest degree. A great character much missed from the forum boards, he could certainly row us all along.

 Lovely looking Golf R Exonian, I agree they do look great in white, a lot of performance cars do. Hope it brings you lots of smiles!!

Thank you Beebopper

I really thought you were a DCC hater...

You are really correct!

I had a limited list of vehicles to choose from and this one won the coin toss.
Every YouTuber insists DCC is a must have so I’m willing to put my money where my mouth/keyboard is and see for myself how it works for me second time round.
The ride on certain roads with non-adaptive dampers with R suspension could be pretty violent so I’ll see if things are better with DCC.
Generally I prefer the predictability of non-adaptive which are a pretty well judged compromise on most Golfs. Firm, non floaty, instant turn in with no initial lean but reasonably comfortable. Let’s see if DCC can improve things further.
Mixed thoughts so far but not overly negative.

I had a feeling yours would be along those lines of spec

Although open minded about which model of performance Golf to go for next, I was definitely swaying towards a Clubsport or Ed50 next year until I was passing my local dealer a month or two ago and I spotted out of the corner of my eye a Lapiz Black Edition on the forecourt.
I immediately came right back around at the next roundabout and parked up to investigate.
It was similarly specced to yours, blue with black roof, black Warmenau, Akra, HK and no doubt a few more extras. No sunroof and a cloth interior. It was love at first sight!
Suddenly I went from 80/20 Clubby/ R BE to 50/50 or even 40/60 !!

I walked around the forecourt a bit more and the two dealer demos were parked side by side.
One was a white Clubsport with Queenstowns and Performance Pack and the other was a Lapiz / black roof but otherwise standard R BE (black Estorils and black exhaust) and literally and literally I was unable to split which I preferred.
The writing was on the wall for poor Daisy from that moment.

When you get to try it, go for individual mode and set the DCC to super soft... Moon buggy mode for UK roads

Only problem is that it seems on an R it refuses to start each time in individual mode  :undecided:
