Adjust xenon headlight height

Does anybody know if this allen bolt (left of the coloured wires) is the one you turn to tweak the height of the main beam?

I think the one you've pictured adjusts the left/right of the headlights though as it can be done using a phillips or a hex key - I seem to remember the height could only be done with a hex key because I had to buy one to adjust the height previously...

Strictly speaking, IIRC, your supposed to put the headlamps into a "setting mode" via diagnostics, then adjust the headlamp aim.

Left is the up down (it shows you the direction to turn on the housing), the one on the right is left right. You don't need to do anything with VCDS when adjusting as that only effects the self levelling when you lower the car and nothing to do with height adjustment.

I adjusted the beam height on my Polo GTI+ (LED headlamps) a couple of years ago as I considered the beam height from the factory to be dangerously low. I didn’t use VCDS.

Beam height is fine now IMHO; I don’t get flashed by oncoming motorists so they’re not too high, and the car passed its first MOT last month and no issues with headlamp beam height.

@greencode; I dare say there are probably a few ‘how to’ videos on YouTube (I’ve not checked) on mk7 Golf headlamp adjustment too.

Oh yeah, I didn't notice that text until I zoomed into the photo I took. Just to confirm, the UP-DOWN is an allen key and the LEFT-RIGHT is a Philips screw, by the looks of it.

Yeah, I had a good look around for "golf mk7 headlight adjustment" and couldn't find anything other than different years of Golfs and MK7 OBD11 tweaks.

Does the car/lights have to be on for the adjustments to work? I've been adjusted mine 4 turn this week in increments, but doesn't seem to have made a difference. Car has been completely off though, so does this means the adjustments get cancelled out by the auto levelling when I next start up?

No, the screws are Physical adjustment and move the inner part of the light. You do not need the lights on to adjust them, I always do with the car in front of my garage to see where they are pointing.
