TRC Splitter (and now mods insurance)
« on: 24 September 2023, 15:47 »
Just wondering if anybody has the TRC Splitter fitted and how much lower this makes the standard spec Golf R MK7? I'd like to get one fitted but I also don't want to be scraping over speed bumps. It doesn't look as though it makes it much lower but thought i'd ask.

Here's the splitter: https://www.triplercomposites.com/product-page/mk7-golf-r-v2-front-splitter

Heard back from the company. It lowers the front by 20mm with the front splitter, V2, on.

Looks very similar to the MAXTON v2

I have a V2 on mine & its on eibach 15mm springs, it will catch on some big speed bumps or carpark ramps, but as long as you slow down its ok . Its coming up to its 2nd birthday

Looks great. On a different topic, did you find your insurance went up because of this? I've just had a quick look and as soon as you mentioned splitters, side skirts etc then it's modified and most of the main insurance companies don't want to know. You're then limiting the amount of insurance companies available to you.

Try A-Plan. The Thatcham branch specialises in modified cars. Mine has a couple of simple non-performance mods and they accommodated those without any difficulties and the premium was competitive.

Well struggling to get insurance!! Tried A Plan. They couldn’t offer me anything. Tried Chris Knot. They were around £560. sterling insurance keep popping up on insurance comparison sites and that’s around £408 although looking at reviews they seem to be hopeless.

Anybody else I can try.

Basically without mods I can get insurance for £400 fully comp with Aviva. If I can’t get a decent price then I’ll probably just leave the spoiler etc.

I'm with Sterling and have had no issues, annoying when adding mods as they have an admin fee. Their call centre is useless though, tried to get a quote a few times one day and their call centre staff just picked up and hung up straight away about 4 times.

They're apart of Adrian Flux and underwritten by Axa so I've no worries in terms of clauses.

Good to know. How much is the admin fee as I’ve not got any mods at present and would be adding them after I’ve got the insurance.

Can't remember I think it's £40 which is a rip off.
