Could be. Or could be the switch- on mine, if you hold the key in either the lock or unlock position, the windows move up or down accordingly - to vent air on hot days etc...
WD40 is your BEST mate....

How much do they go up and down? Is it a little bit either way or all the way then closed again? Are you moving? Bumps in the road etc? Is an alarm fitted etc...?

N alarm.
It went down in the middle of the night.
It went down when I was driving, both hands on the wheel.
I'm guessing maybe the door/pillar connections shorting?

tbh mate, it's more likely one of the ends of the wires than in the middle of it if you see what I mean... Unless of course you've got 'metal moth' in there or it's been accident damaged? I think the insulation of the cables is built to withstand nuclear winter etc. so it's not gonna go screwy on it's own.
You'll get a much better idea once the door card is off but there's not really anything else you can do... HTH.

I'll have to have a look and see what I find. No auto electrician wants to look at it.

Don't worry about that mate, be brave!! I'd have a look if I was close by? (Bridgwater Somerset)
I'm not an auto electrician, but I know what's what.....
