Removing seats and centre console - likely errors?
« on: 24 August 2023, 10:56 »
I'll soon be removing my carpet and underlay due to water damage from the dreaded rear speaker seal issue! As I'll be disconnecting a lot of connectors I'm just wondering what errors may get thrown up when I plug everything back in. I'm presuming the airbag but anything else?

Also, what do I then need in order to cancel those errors? I've not got anything at the minute for this.

There will probably be errors stored for the airbags, which IIRC when i fitted a hands free kit to my other halfs MK6, the codes wouldnt clear using a Snap On diagnostic tool and had to borrow VCDS to clear the fault codes.

Long term VW ownership planned?? Other family members with VAG cars?? Ross Tech VCDS is hard to beat.

Possibly but £230 is a lot of money to pay. Looking at the reviews for this, it appears this would clear the airbag codes.

I would be inclined to disconnect the battery before starting any of the work if at all possible. That way once its reconnected you shouldn't get any codes.
Where are you based? Somebody local may be able to help you clear codes. I'm in Exeter if any good. Always happy to help out fellow members.

Thanks. Up between Leicester and Peterborough and I may have a friend that works at an independent garage that may have what’s needed to cancel the errors.

Also an option.

Yeah I did think of one of these. Get really confused with all of the OBD stuff and which device you need and why/if you need a subscription?!

One thing to note about the OBD's I remember watching something a while ago, where they said the OBD's can mess around with the modules and can make more errors. But that's using them to actually change things rather than reset lights, either way best to air on the side of caution using them.

I bought a Ross Tech VCDs cable years ago and have used it more than enough to warrant it, note I bought the 3 vin version and upgraded the vin numbers as needed, next step in unlimited vins. Also you don't need to use a vin to clear codes

VCDS is a great bit of kit, very powerful dealer level diagnostics, well worth the outlay if your planning on long term VW ownership or like myself have 3 VAGs in the family.

OBDeleven, as you have said Will, can mess around with allsorts behind the scenes which can wreak havoc.

Obd11 itself can't mess things up it's only if the person using it doesn't have a clue what they are doing. Vcds is exactly the same, play around without the knowledge of what you are doing and then things go wrong.
