Long time lurker, first time poster. Honestly, I probably wouldn't have even made this account if when I collected the Clubsport I'd waited 2 years today it hadn't had this on the steering wheel:

Had to explain to my dealer that this probably isn't right and it should be GTI here instead; 40 on the steering wheel is only supposed to be for the USA GTI 40th edition as far as I understood.  Another clubsport was delivered at the same time as mine and it happend to be in the showroom at the time; when we checked this one...GTI on the steering wheel as it should be, not 40.

I guess theres been a mixup in the factory and now some poor chap in the USA is going to get his GTI 40th edition without the 40 on the steering wheel!

Anyone else had this? or have I got a unique thing here?

The important thing is are you happy with it or do you want it replaced? Also wondering did you get an engine cover? Sorry if I have diluted your thread. 🤦🏻

Well there’s a collective slap in the face knowing you’d not have otherwise sought to join in this valuable resource and experience sharing site full of engine cover deprived, bong infested owners. 🤪

Only kidding.

These random mis-builds do occur.
I can remember an acquaintance of mine many years ago showing me the dash “decorative inserts” in his leased GT TDI, three being correct GT items and one a GTI spec 🙄

The 40 is pretty cool

It might be appropriate if that’s your age?

It looks OK but… “40” makes no sense here. We’re on 45 on this side of the Atlantic!

The trim swaps out very easily anyway. 10 min job for a dealer.

My first mk7 gti pp had a left hand drive hazard warning dash insert on a right hand drive car.. How the factory never noticed this was beyond me as they were different angle pieces and the incorrect insert was not flush to the rest of the dash.  I had it changed.  I would probably get the 40 insert on your steering wheel changed as well.

No I didn't get an engine cover, can't say I'm bothered by the lack of one.

No it doesn't make sense, but for now it doesn't bother me and I cba taking it back for something this minor so I'll probably leave it as is. If it needs to go in for anything else, or at its first service, I'll see how I feel then and I might ask them to correct it.

Not at the moment, but in future it will line up eventually

I've read through many posts, but I honestly just didn't have anything interesting to say until now...
