Fixed Price Service
« on: 23 March 2023, 17:58 »
Hey All

Had a call from my dealer and the whole service plan is up for renewal and they're doing the all inclusive hustle (excluding brake fluid). Seems the prices are going up after 1/April so renewing before means VWFS will honour the 22/23 pricing. Mentioning if useful to anyone in a similar position.

I'm debating not bothering with main dealer and going to an independent VAG specialist with a good reputation. I just don't want to give the organised crime syndicate at VWFS my money but at the same time, not sure where this comes out on comparison costs.

I'd much prefer my car going to a garage where they're a garage first and not administrators who take your keys and sell you a service plan. Being a garage seems to feature low down on the list!

Anyone been in a similar position and can offer their perspective?

Thanks

Alex

It just depends who your local VAG specialist is and if they have a good name. It's not a normal gti so those that buy it (if you ever sell) will be much fussier on silly things, but realistically it's just oil and a filter so it's more the intervals people are looking for.

There’s a reputable independent VAG specialist near me who I used once to service my Seat.

There was virtually no difference in cost between them and the Seat main dealer.

On a service plan I’m fairly sure there will be little cost difference.

I had intended, by this point, to change to an independent- I saved a lot of money and got better service when I changed to independents for the BMWs I owned previously- but frankly, I don’t feel the need to change - for now at least

Lucky enough to have an independent VW specialist about 5 miles away, all the Techs are GTI enthusiasts and they do a great job. To me, talking to the guy who actually works on your car vs the Service Receptionist is priceless.

I don't really have one. One of my clients is based in Warwick and I thought that I might get APS to do it. Or I could speak to Richard at Tuthill Porsche. I got out the Porsche network the moment my warranty expired and went to JZM. I've struggled to find an equivalent in VAG who is reasonably close to me.

Judging by the MOT at an independent versus main dealer, there was about £40 in it. VW price matched without quibble but it left me with the feeling that there was a bump for the VW dealer stamp. About 40% saving on major services with Porsche by going to JZM over main dealer. I just need to find a reputable indie.

Mind sharing their details please Adam? I'm open to all suggestions right now as I have a client in Warwick who I get to see on a reasonably regular basis so with some planning, I could widen the net.

I don’t have a stamp, it’s an electronic service record. Local Independent is on the VW Service database and updates and gives me a copy. If I was looking at a used GTI, I’d rather see DSG and Haldex services every 3 years and oil changes every 6 months on a service record than a dealer stamp based on VW’s service plan.

Bit of a stretch from Warwick, it’s VW World in Stockport👍.

I'm not a fan of main dealer stealers, but my local VW dealer has price matched the last couple of times I've asked, for MOT(£35) and for brake fluid change(£39)
I have the service plan, in order to get the extra 2 year warranty.
