Exhaust sound on Comfort/Sport
« on: 18 March 2023, 18:00 »
Hi guys,

Does anyone know if the actual exhaust sound/volume changes between the Comfort and Sport settings?

I know the awful Soundaktor device changes but on our factory non-valved exhausts, how can the sound change between modes?

It seems to on my Clubsport. Probably a slightly more aggressive fuelling map. Or my imagination . One of those.

Interesting-I wonder if that is just a Clubby thing?

Anyone know for certain?

Even without exhaust valves, you can have some impact on exhaust note in a few ways. First off, you can simply raise the idle speed, but that doesn’t effect the sound under load. You can also change timing, which will effect sound across the board. Neither will be as different as a valved exhaust though, and you wouldn’t typically change timing for sound reasons.

Previous and sorely missed - MK7.5 GTI Perf, Indium Grey, Brescias, Art Velours, Rear Camera

No its not just a clubby thing. Its definitely louder in sport mode and you also get down shift blips and even the engine sound setting (in individual mode) does effect the exhaust sound...

Not obnoxious but definitely throatier.

The clubby is louder still because of its different pipe

The Soundaktor in my mk7 R actually sounded quite alright - a bit like a Subaru Impreza type note. However in the mk8 GTI CS it sounds a bit like the engine has some loose components!

BTW somewhere on here we talked about this before and someone from VW actually had confirmed its definitely a feature that the exhaust note changes... obviously within current EU regulations regarding noise tho :(

Thanks guys, some interesting stuff there.

I'm going for the Scorpion downpipe with cat and OPF delete with a custom 'Stage 1+' map.

With all of that, I'm hoping for some control over volume and it would be useful if it is through the mode selections.

Me too!

The downpipe is on back order until 4th April so hopefully it'll all be completed early April.

The place I've chosen does a before and after dyno so I should have some figures too.
