Clubsport Seats
« on: 03 March 2023, 11:22 »
Hey All

I've had a look online but couldn't see any reference to this issue so was wondering if any owners of Clubsport / Clubsport S cars with the bucket seats have ever noticed the seat losing back position?

Virtually every time I get in the car, I end up adjusting the seat a few rotations clockwise (towards the dash). I wonder if there is a part that just needs some tightening as it moves and locks but under load, I think it eases. Perhaps I don't notice it slipping as much as when I get into the car and it feels obvious that I'm not in my normal driving position.

Quite difficult to gauge an accurate control to measure changes because two or three rotations of the adjustment wheel are not hugely obvious by eye.

Don't have this problem in the TCR. Appreciate it's a slightly different seat.

Any advice or experience appreciated.

Thanks

Could be the coil spring on the seat mechanism has jumped slightly and it's got reduce clamp strength causing this. My brother's R32 has the same Recaros and has never had an issue in the 8 odd years he's had it.

Yep, my Recaros do exactly the same.

So much so I have put a marker on the backrest so I know where to readjust it to without faffing about.

Googled the issue but unfortunately drew a blank on a fix.

Let me know if you find a fix, I even emailed a Recaro repair agent but they never responded.

Can't even see anything for me to investigate looking at the parts diagram -

No issues with mine, not even a creak!

With just over 12k miles of road use maybe I have this to look forward to?

At what mileage are owners starting to experience problems?

That makes a lot of sense. I don't want to have to take apart the seat as I don't have an assembly diagram. I can figure it out but I will find no joy in the process!

Out of interest, how did you brother end up with 2016 Clubsport seats in his R32? They're obscenely expensive from VW and likely 50% of the value of his car!

Appreciate the share, I'll have a proper read of the article when I'm more awake! Been a long day. Sometimes these articles can trigger an idea or give you the knowledge to ask a different question. All valuable.

I'm at 16k and I think I must have started to notice it around 2k miles but wasn't sure if it was my imagination.

Thanks. I suspect it's one of those things that is such a pain in the backside that it's easier to pretend it doesn't exist on the part of the repairer and owner!

I have some contacts in Germany so I'll see where I get to.

Glad that I'm not the only one, thought I was going mad.

They’re Mk5 Wingback seats, VW have been selling them since the mk5 as an option and never redesigned them, so full leather which is nice. Also it’s barely got 40k miles on it and the prices on them are going up exorbitantly.
