Motech performance Remus Race Exhaust
« on: 20 November 2022, 20:50 »
Hi all

Just testing the waters in the forum. My GTi is coming in a three months. Planing to upgrade the exhaust to a Remus.

I contacted Motech Performance with regards to installing a Remus Race GPF Back Exhaust System (None Res) or the Remus Sport GPF Back Exhaust System. (With Res)

Has anyone installed any of the systems listed in their car. If so, whats it like living with for a daily driver?

1. Does it drone.

2. Warranty problems with VW.

3. Loudness and sound - If it worth get the Res system or the none res system. I've seen a few Youtube video to get some ideas of the loudness and sound but never heard it in person. I like a little bit of pops and bang nothing too crazy I like my neighbours and don't want to wake them up at 4AM.

4. Does driving modes change the volume and tone of the exhaust, pop and bangs, you know.

Thanks all
Bosco

I would be interested in hearing views on this.

My only experience with exhausts is swapping the standard one on my 2017 S5 that I had for a full non-res Milltek. Loved it and really added to the car. Some slight drone on the motorway but not bad and I never really took it on the mway.

I never had any issues with Audi at services etc.

Given these Golfs are a 4 pot and have a GPF I am very skeptical in the actual different a GPF back will make. I would instinctively go non-res given its going to give you more sound.

You are definitely asking for hassle in terms of warranty imo. If you have a warranty issue with the car, then, in theory, you should still be covered 100% so long as the warranty issue in question is not something that VW could argue is directly linked to your modification - e.g. say its a problem with the Infotainment system (a common MK8 complaint) - well, thats hardly related to the exhaust is it.... but I'd imagine in many cases this distinction will be at the discretion of the dealer/VW and they could make life awkward for you, particularly when the car is so obviously modded, as it will be with an aftermarket loud exhaust.

If it were me, I'd try to keep the car as OEM (or OEM++) looking as possible, especially whilst in warranty. So if you really want an exhaust, how about the Akrapovic system which is a factory option.

Hi thanks for the reply to my post

Unfortunately mine is a standard MK8 GTi. No option for a Akrapovic system unless I go Clubsport 45 or the R.

I did ask my dealer about mods just the exhaust. No clear answers form them, maybe they are covering themselves in case anything happens. I may ask to see if the dealer could fit the remus themselves.

Worth a try, if not then I'll wait three years then swap it out after the warranty ends.

Recently my dealer told me that my car is delayed again. Second time it has happened.  A option is to look for a either a Clubsport 45 or a R with a Akrapovic system.

Thank for the reply to this post. I like to see if anyone else has a plan or a option of having a Remus fitted. I hear that cars with OPF-GPF it takes a lot of sound out the system. is this true?

The call I had with Motech pointed me toward the none res system (called the Race Exhaust). I'm not too sure if it will be too loud. I don't want Ford Fiesta pops and bangs, just something a little more .

I don't want to be underwhelmed by the car I always wanted and realistically could afford.

All ideas and options are welcome.

Not my experience but appreciate all dealers are different. The Akrapovic doesn't sound that great, again leading me to believe that unless you do an OPF delete it still going to sound a bit pants. Would love to be proved wrong!

I have a Remus Non-res w/ sport back box on my mk7.5 so although not the same it is also a GPF model so it will give you some insight.

1. No Drone

2. Never had to go to them about warranty regarding anything in connection to the exhaust, but they can say it will void the engine warranty from memory as it connects to it.

3. On the mk7 the Remus is louder than the TCR back box, but it is still what you'd call original in terms of loudness not over the top but nice and could leave you wanting a little more, but I also have the option of doing a back box delete with remus equipment as well, which would make the mk8 equal to the mk8R exhaust as it is also a non res, no back box exhaust from memory.

It does take about 2k miles to coke up with the GPF, so it does get louder from install.

4. You would require a valved exhaust for those to change, and I think that's only available on the Remus exhaust for the Mini JCW & BMW's currently.

If you want any sound clips PM me and I can WhatsApp you a few for reference.

Seen this youtube video before. Great pops and bangs from the exhaust. I wonder what does the system with the resonator sounds like.

they can say it will void the engine warranty from memory as it connects to it.

They can only deny warranty for anything they can prove was caused by the exhaust. Obviously VW wont warrantly an aftermarket exhaust, but you shouldn't have to worry about it causing damage to the rest of the vehicle if it's fitted properly, and if you need warranty work on the engine they can refuse to work on the car until you have the exhaust removed, and can refuse to refit it, but they would have to have reasonable evidence your exhaust was the cause of the issue to not warranty it.
