‘The new 3.0 software is coming now,’ he said. ‘It will not be the sliders and hardware, but the software will be a tremendous step up in the next few weeks.

I wonder do existing owners get this "3.0" software? I would be doubtful...

As for the non-illuminated sliders, I can't understand how something as simple as this wasn't rectified ages ago. This would definitely be a hardware change though so us existing owners will never see this.

i wonder if the changes will be to schedule, given past promises.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Thats not a change, it’s the basic unit only fitted to the base ‘Golf’ model although very rare since the basic models were discontinued during the supply chain issues. You also don’t get the touch sliders with it.

Don’t know why it’s in a GTI though. Unless the GTI spec on some region has it. It’s wierd as the steering wheel has he haptic buttons while lower than models have the buttons.

Recently, I have viewed a video on an American web site, which reviewed the spec of a new 2023 GTI. Maybe for their GTI SE spec. It had the two knobs fitted either side of the infotainment screen. The presenter referred to their function too. I’ll have a look for it again and if I find it I’ll post the link.
Previous owner of many Golfs and GTIs. Now Audi S3.

Amercian spec is different to UK/EU - they have a cheapo infotainment system you don't find here - something from a Polo or something... the knobs are for that.

The USA have three different trim levels for the GTI; S, SE and Autobahn. The GTI S gets the small infotainment unit / screen with the two knobs.
