Aircon uses more fuel. I know they are a lot better than they used to be but it is still load on the engine.

However I did read that if you do 60mph or more and have the window open it uses more fuel through drag than by using the aircon.

If you are using the car in town it will make a difference.

It goes off when I have the roof and windows open. Although the days of enjoying the wind in my hair are long gone, I love having the roof open and do so as often as I can.

It wasn't doing it today so perhaps there's something in the temperature that was set when it was switched off.

Also noticed this happening earlier in the year and wondered why the car was getting so hot inside with HVAC off.
As mentioned above turning the temp to min before turning off seems to work for me to. I haven't found any other solutions, only comments that it's just a thing that this car does. Bit naff really isn't it, never had this issue with older and less premium brands of car.

Not saying it's the case for people on this forum, but the answer to that question is generally that they don't understand properly how it works.

I've addressed this already. Or perhaps you think I should have the aircon on with the windows and sunroof open?

You could spin this around and ask why are people leaving it on when it isn't needed, as doing so uses more fuel.

The fan also makes some noise, especially on 2 bars or above.

it doesn't use that much fuel really, I've never noticed any discernable difference in mpg. You maybe need to have the system checked if your fan is making a noise. You cause more issues by not using the climate control. Seals etc being one.

It’s not used just for its cooling properties - it also dehumidifies the air, so can be useful at this time of year when condensation on the inside of windows seems to be an issue in some cars.

I keep mine on 24/7 for the cooling effect in the warmer months and the dehumidifying effect in the colder months.

The gas is also a lubricant, maintains seals etc. - mine is constantly on. If you flick through the Car menu you can see how much fuel is being used by convenience consumers - it’s 3/5ths of FA for the climate control.
