My CSS has covered 35,000 miles or so. It is my daily driver. No intention to ever sell so for me the miles don't matter.

Same here. You must have one of the highest mileage cars. Here's to the next 35,000!

Congratulations. Wise man.

I’ve sold so many cars I wish I didn’t. Triumph spitfire. 72 Land Rover. Z3 M coupe. GT3 GT4. V6 Clio.  Clio trophies. R26 R. Focus RS. VX220’s.

Don’t start me on motorbikes.

The CSS is never going. I love driving it. Every time I start it up I’m happy.

It's a car that is better than it should be for what it is. If that makes sense. Enjoy in good health.

Would you use it though with only 26 miles on the clock if you were lucky enough to be in a position to purchase it??

Somethings are just bought as something nice to have, whether it be a car, a painting or a grandfather clock. Forget that it's a car and think of it as something nice to look at. As an investment, it should never be driven. These things are only original/new once.

Diana's Black RS Turbo sold recently for £722,500 with less that 25,000 miles on it. That should never be driven. In fact, I wouldn't even sit in it as I'd want to keep the fragrance in the drivers seat for as long as possible.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

The only black mk1 RS Turbo that was ever built (all the others were white), so even without the royalty connection, it is a very rare car.

Seeing it makes me reminisce about the mk3 Escort XR3 and XR3i that I owned back in the 1980’s ……….
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

A lad in the next village had an RS1600i in about 1986. I always wanted one of them. He's recently bought another through Mathewsons. It's a lovely car. In fact one that I would let my Mk2 16V make room for.

Oh, I get the appeal and the thinking. Every niche has collectors and in a way, it's great to preserve examples as cultural artefacts for their importance at a point in time but I'd rather be the guy who can tell you stories of what it was like to drive. How it handled on a deserted B-road on a warm summer evening. The childish glee from the exhaust. The feedback through the steering wheel.

I remember seeing a Porsche 959 that had done 8 miles. It was bought as an investment and put into a bonded warehouse. Fuel had jellified and had to be recommissioned but when I saw it, it still had the unmistakeable new car smell, all the manufacturing seals were in place. My benchmark for a time warp car. It went to a collector in HK who would have had to pay the value of the car in import taxes and duty again so there is zero chance that it'll ever turn a wheel on the road. The agent who had done the deal told me the new owner was building a plinth in his home for it in anticipation. But I'd sit there looking at it wondering what it'd be like on that quiet b-road on a warm summer evening...
