decisions...
« on: 19 October 2005, 22:33 »
my cousin has just turned 21.. and he's after a new car, curently has a modded euro style polo(his first car sat doin nothing atm), and a seat ibiza cupra sport current car ...but he's after something else...
tbh this was swayed by his mate buying a mk4 anniversary for a bargain price and it goes like poop!!! (its a diesel... 150 i think)

just wondering what ur opinions were on the following.. i know they're all pretty much the same underneath... the mk4 golf, like the anniv i think... the audi a3..... or the skoda Vrs thingy.. little 5dr

went for a test drive in the skoda and it went really well, although i wans't at all interested in the dash.. i didn't like it  but the interior was nice.. seat wise etc he's driven teh golf of his mates and test driven one. i don't know if he's driven he audi yet but what are your opinions  guys? i know the golf seems obvious...

Had an Audi A3t a few years ago, good car, but pricey. The Golf is more-or-less thes same floor plan as the A3, but residuals are less. The VRs. is an awesome car, as long as you're not snobby about the badge. As they sell for silly money 2nd hand he could pick up a good one for about £8-9k.

he can get about 11 from bank i think... but he can get either of the three... basically the condition is not priority(obv needs to be pretty good) as he has access to spraying etc etc at work and through his dad... but can pick up either of teh cars from 8k upwards.....

must admit the skoda was nice... i just didn't like centre console....

I had the A3, you can pic up a cheap Turbo for around £4.5 with full history. Go well and in my opinion better looking than the Golf.

Petroleum Hun. Diesels can be tuned though and will go well with a remap.

Hello
Its me thats looking for the car, i have about 8k to spend on a car then that will leave me some cash for mods,im after a diesel either 130 or 150 bhp and will be getting it re mapped as soon as i get it! I am very for the golf as i have always liked my VW's but as the skoda audi and seat all share just about the same engines and bits its a bit confuseing!

something else to consider..maybe...just a thought...

but i saw a Bora 150TDI Sport for a fiver under £8100. Think it was silver; all the goodies. Only thing it didn't mention the mileage.  Saw a few 130 and 150's about the 8 - 9K mark some with as little mileage as 29K

know a Bora ain't to everyone's taste but its different

The A3 drives nice in 'Sport' trim, which has a lower stiffer ride..
As for the golf, It'd have to be an anniversary
Skoda vRs..bit of a bargain.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

For the money, the fabia vrs is damn hard to beat, although they're still new cars so 8k may just about get you a high mileage beater. In my opinion, audi didn't get the diesel A3's right until the new shape, which you wont get on your budget.

Mk4 PD anniversary golf would be the daddy, but you're looking at 12k for a decent one, you'd struggle for a good condition standard PD150 on your budget too. I'd be looking at late model (2002-ish) PD130 GTTDI Golfs or PD130 Bora Sports.. for some reason the same spec bora's go for about a grand less than the equivalent golfs.. then you just need that all-important remap to give yourself 180bhp to play with.
