Mark 7.5 GTI Questions
« on: 30 March 2022, 16:06 »
Hello, new to the forum after collecting the above from Redditch Volkswagen about a month ago. Really like the car and finally got round to giving a good detail and polish today before the rain started, however I have a few questions which I can't seem to find the answers for by googling so asking here...

1) Are the lower black splitter lips/ skirts on each side removable? Noticed one has seen a bit of life underneath when cleaning.

2) Is DAB reception an issue on Golf's in general - I've had both cars sat on the drive next to each other (other car is a Mini Cooper SD with a BMW Bee Sting aerial) and can only seem to get half the stations if that in the Golf - issue stations are things like Virgin Radio and those on the National but not BBC DAB section

3) Voice control from the steering wheel, when pushed I get a pop up saying speak to the dealer - is this just a software or hardware purchase?

4) Boot liners - which one should I be going for? The floor is kept in the upper position as I have already packed various bits of car stuff underneath the floor on top of the spare

Any help would be much appreciated,

All the best
Neal

Welcome to the forum, I can only help with two of your questions.

2/ I've never noticed a problem with DAB reception on our 2019 Mk7.5 Golf, it picks up the same stations as our previous car (Seat Leon) and it has a better signal than our Fiesta.

4/ I've just purchased a Rezaw-Plast boot mat for the upper floor and the quality is really good, and so is the fitment. It's this one here and in the reviews you can see the photos:

Really pleased with the fit.

Hopefully someone else can help on the other questions.

Welcome. Hope you find the forum as useful as I have over the years.

2 Not had a problem with dab on my 2019 gti. Occasionally I lose reception in one area around Leeds on one station only.

3 Voice control is a software code purchase from a dealer although there are some sources a bit cheaper if you look around. Not bothered myself and some comments on the forum suggest it is a bit iffy. Fitted it to my mk6 ( a hardware module change) and find it does not always pick up the correct name when phoning out. That may be my enunciation.

Sorry cannot help with the splitter question.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

@nealcoope; the front bumper lower spoiler / lip pieces are available as separate parts.

This eBay seller is selling the genuine VW items (both driver and passenger sides) for £41.99 the pair and there’s a vehicle compatibility checker in the eBay ad so you can make sure they fit your car;

I have a Novline boot liner in my Polo GTI+ which IMHO is very good. It looks very similar to the Rezaw-Plast version posted by @bogwoppit and Novline make a version for the mk7 / mk7.5 Golf with the boot floor in the raised position. The version for the Golf is £31.95 with free delivery. Link below;

I have used the seller that SRGT has found for the splitter and have found them reliable. Definitely genuine vw parts in my case and prices have been reasonable with delivery in about 4 days. Just found a one day code for up to 15% off - OT5.

I had voicecontrol on my Mk7/7.5... largely a waste of time. Slow to react, often gets it wrong.

I'd not pay for it on its own.... it came with NavPro on my cars.

Ironically though, still better than the Mk8 voice control....

1: No idea
2: Never had a problem. Could be a faulty antenna?
3: Had it. Pile of crap. If you have CarPlay, long press the voice button and Siri works perfectly
4: Depends what you carry. If just general bags, coats and bits. The OEM foam liner is fine. If not, definitely recommend the Hatchbag 👍 I have 3 of them for our cars and they are really hard wearing and fit perfectly.

Thanks all for the replies.

So I’ve done some more digging and got under the car

The front bumper spoiler piece was switched to a one piece moulding for MK7 Facelift cars from 2017 onwards so that’s a job for the warmer weather.

Had a look at the DAB antenna posts and have requested the dealer to look at it when it goes in during the summer as it’s got a two year warranty.

Ended up ordering a Nomad boot liner which I’ve fitted to keep the kids from just dumping football boots on the carpets.

Think I’ll give the voice control a miss given the poor feed back and revert to Siri and CarPlay.

Thanks again.
