A set of replicas from CMWheels for £550?

https://cmwheels.com/?s=Estoril+&post_type=product

Although they’re good value at £550, the durability of the diamond cut finish might not be particularly good, especially if your car is a daily driver and you’re planning on keeping the wheels on the car all year round. VW OEM diamond cut alloys often succumb to white worm corrosion after a couple of years, so I’d anticipate a set of cheap-ish replicas won’t fare any better - probably worse. However, you would only be paying £550 for a set of four.

IMHO, £5,000 for a set of genuine VW Estorils is a joke!

If you do go the replica route, my preference would be a set of mk7.5 GTI TCR Reifnitz replicas in satin gun metal. Much more durable than diamond cut alloys, and IMHO they really suit the mk8 - forum member @Exonian has a set on his mk8 GTI Clubsport. And link to the Reifnitz alloys on CMWheels website; https://cmwheels.com/?s=Reifnitz&post_type=product

They’re not light either. Far better aftermarket options imo

Agree; other than the quite rare Belvedere alloys, VW OEM alloys aren’t particularly light.

@callumjm; if it doesn’t have to be Estorils (or replica Estorils as an alternative), I’d suggest having a look at some of the online aftermarket alloy wheel retailer websites (e.g. www.rimstyle.com). There are lots of good quality premium branded aftermarket alloys that are considerably cheaper than £5k for a set, and many are OEM style.

Look on ebay.de, I have used below before ;

Not so long ago I’d have spent months searching out a set of OEM Estorils myself, but not at £5k a set!!
One pothole impact could easily see a couple grands worth of (not particularly special) wheel(s) kaput.

I had no hesitation in getting a set of CM replicas on the car almost immediately after delivery as I disliked the OEM 18’s on my Clubsport. Not so much the styling but the offset was all wrong for my tastes.
As SR said above ^^^^ I put Reifnitz replicas on mine as they were/are a bit unusual, and I did briefly consider getting some CM Estoril replicas to put Cross Climate tyres on over winter too, but decided in the end I’d tough it out with summer tyres.
As yet, after 15 months and circa 10k miles the CM replicas have stood up pretty well (touch wood) but again, as SRGTD said, I’d personally avoid the polished style as they won’t stand up to salty winter conditions very well.

£5k to different people means different things. To some it’s loose change, to others it’s significant but not too painful, to me it’s a bloody lot of money that it would take me ages and ages to save up and no doubt my kids would have needed it as a loan long before I’d saved it, so I don’t bother even trying to earn that sort of money nowadays! It all depends on your standpoint and level of car OCD at the end of the day.
