Only the HK sound system is optional on UK performance Golfs are they going to delete the other items from the standard spec? And does this apply to existing or just new orders placed? Thanks.

I’m not surprised. Seems similar problems everywhere, was reading earlier Ford will only be supplying the updated Focus with the smaller infotainment screen due to parts issues with the larger version.

Ford has also removed folding mirrors and the upgraded B&O audio option from the Fiesta and I believe BMW has been building cars with reduced spec for a while now to get around the semiconductor supply issue.

It’s not clear from Lee’s post why VW have dropped certain options from ordering - presumably due to issues with their suppliers of those parts having issues themselves with component supplies. It’s conceivable that VW will delete these items of spec from existing orders to help reduce the backlog of cars waiting to be built and reduce lead times - if so, then it’ll be interesting to see if / how customers will be compensated when their cars arrive with items of spec and / or extra cost options that they’ve ordered missing from the car……….

Its hard to say what exactly this means.... I've seen with BMW they have removed options from lower models but kept them on top end models - presumably focusing their limited supplies on where they deam it most important.

It doesn't surprise me that they are doing this, only in that its taken them so long to start doing it...

Can you please be clearer with this information? Is this from the standard Golf, from the options list, removed from all spec whether optioned or standard?

Ok, thanks. And does that affect existing ‘orders’ or just new ones?

I would expect it is affecting current orders in place with those options on.

But if you have one on order your supplying retailer may have specific advice on that. Certainly removing those options is likely to speed up delivery.

It was reported, in writing, as follows by a main dealer to a member of the Tiguan forum (the email listed all VW models, Golf included):

"Some options to be closed for ordering temporarily from 16 March.

To help reduce the impact the semi-conductor restrictions are having on lead time, the options that are most affected will be removed from ordering in SLI from Wednesday 16 March.
Existing orders with the affected combinations continue to face delays. No current orders will be deleted with these option combinations."
