Me too!
Probably saved the factory 50p on a £30k car.
What on earth are they thinking???

I think I’m correct in saying the shield was factory fitted to the first 7.5s but was removed as part of a penny pinching exercise. Still can’t get my head round that accountant mentality on a premium priced car.

Much better, it was the first thing I did to my mk7 CS when I got it home.

I thought these disappeared as standard fitment on a later mk7 at around the time the glovebox key lock vanished?

Can’t say the absence of that cover has ever bothered me. The missing cover isn’t something that’s seen (or more correctly, not seen) other than when I check under bonnet fluid levels and wipe around the bonnet edges after washing the car. I seem to remember the official reason for VW stopping fitting that cover was that in a small number of cases it had become detached so it was considered to be a safety hazard, although maybe the real reason for not fitting it was cost cutting.

50p - or whatever the cost - saved on a plastic cover plus other small saving on cost cutting measures (e.g. door mirror bolt covers, isofix covers, lidded battery box / cover etc.) will all add up to quite a significant amount over the life of the mk7/mk7.5 Golf when you consider the number of cars built.

Funny you mention door mirror bolt covers as ive just done a 2016 Golf R and noticed these, they've not only done away with the covers themselves but the holes in the door too to mount them!!

Thought they'd be a nice little retro fit, as my CS has the bolts on view.

Although probably not been fitted to a CS due to the increase in weight...............
