Sat nav update and speed camera warnings.
« on: 04 March 2022, 01:44 »
Hi.

I have the 2020 vw golf and would like to know how I update the sat nav and how I turn on or add speed camera warnings as I have no warning of speeds cameras.

Thank you for the help

Welcome!

On the mk7.5 you added the speed cameras as POI using the SD card slot if I recall. I did it somehow. Then you turn on notifications for that POI group.

I’m still looking in to how to add them to the mk8, I believe it’s by the we connect app, however, my car arrived with only one key and I’m still waiting for the second key so I can become the primary user and have a play with this.

Interested to hear how you get on.

The satnav updates over the air - you don't need to update maps by hand any more.

As for speed cameras, you can't load them like the Mk7.

Use Waze...
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

I’ve read somewhere online (think someone asked about a Tiguan on another forum) that you can add custom POI via the we connect app, not sure if this means you can add an entire library like the “speed camera database”?

Not sure if this will work on the golf system? I will have a look when my second key eventually arrives and I’m the primary user.

No it doesn't work. There isn't such an option in WeConnect.

Thanks for the info but I don't really understand as never had a golf before.
Do I load the speed camera locations onto a sd card then load that into the car some how ? Or do I do POI somehow and add them like that.

Sorry if I'm coming across stupid but really do t want to screw up the cars systems

Apologies, might have confused things talking about POI.

In the Mk7/7.5 golf you could add the speed camera database as POI using the SD slot.

What Fred was confirming is that it is not possible (in any way) to add speed cameras to the sat nav systems in the mk8 golfs.

In case you’re not aware, one option is to use a 3rd party map/navigation systems using Apple CarPlay or android auto. One good system is called Waze and is free to install the app on your phone and use. Waze has good live reporting of fixed/mobile cameras and accidents, if you’ve got an iPhone, the inbuilt Apple maps now has fixed speed cameras too and I believe Google maps will follow suit soon.

Oh OK so I can't add speed camera at all to the I  built sat nav.  That stupid in my eyes.
I know about waze as use it all the time in my day job and I know about android play and that but I dont want to use that at all.

I have paid over 20k for the car and want the car to do this stuff if I have to use my phone it just feels like I'm getting g ripped off
