Broken DAB

Hi

Wondering if anybody can help with my 2016 1.4 TSI Match Edition.

I've managed to leave my drivers window open overnight and it's been raining lightly.  The car wasn't too wet inside.

All the other electrics around that area i.e. folding mirrors, heated mirrors, central locking, and windows seem fine.

FM and AM seem fine just DAB has no signal (most of the time) it has worked since but only briefly on a couple of occasions.

Anyone got any ideas of what might need replacing?

Thanks in advance.

How long ago was this as if you give it time to dry properly it may come back to life. Had similar in my last BMW where one of our cats stood on the fob and opened all the windows and sunroof when it was P'ing down. The iDrive was soaked and all the buttons next to it. The iDrive control was dead but after a few days the buttons all sprang back into life as they dried.

If you hadn’t of said about the window open I would have said the aerial splitter in the boot, as the aerial comes out the back of the unit in the glove box to the boot then gets split to the 2 different aerials on the roof, then again it could be the amount of dampness inside the car

Hi

It was only Wednesday so only been a few days it's not been that warm to dry it out so I've had heaters on full blast when I've been out.  It's not the end of the world as I can use TuneIn via Android Auto however it's not as convenient.

I had the problem in the past were the rear window needed replacing under warranty as the rear windscreen heater was causing the signal to drop.  I think it's too much of a conicidance to be anything other than that however when I was looking at wiring diagrams I couldn't figure out if any of the cables went that way especially like you say the unit is in the glove box.

I’ve seen a couple of people with rusty aerial amps in the boot, that’s why I mentioned it,

Hi

Just for anyone following the topic or had a similar issue.

Took the car to VW for diagnosis;

Carried out checks into poor DAB reception, road tested vehicle and confirmed fault, connected VAS machine and checked fault memory, found fault listed for DAB amplifier, carried out test plan, removed upper boot trim, tested DAB wiring connections, signals and frequencies, all tested ok, confirm Amplifier faulty and req new.

Part replaced was 5G6035577B.

Confirmed signal is now back to normal.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Pretty much, although I don't think it was rusty.  I'm not sure why having the window down on the other side would have caused this unless it was just a coincidence!

RST, it seens obvious that your dab receiver got wet? How that relates to a window being open I don't know!
Have you checked the condition of your tailgate drain tube?
If this is not connected to the exit hole, water can stay in the tailgate, having entered by the badge/handle and when you lift the tailgate open, water then flows to the part of the tailgate by the hinges.
This could explain how the dab reciever got wet.
If you had the repair done at a VW garage, I am sure they would have checked the condition of the drain tube, if it's not in place the issue may reoccur?

Hi

Yep it could well be that as I recently replaced the drain tube the other week after realising the end had perished.  When I did that I took the entire trim out and it didn't seem to show any sign of being wet but it could have dried.  There was a bit of rust on the left tailgate bulb holder connection too so it does seem like there has been water in there at some point.

Anyway all sorted now, just seems really odd that literally the day after leaving the window open it stopped working.

To add to the above not long after my rear speaker started leaking so had to get the replaced too!  Never rains it pours (literally in this case!).
