Bee Sting Aerial - Easy Job?
« on: 18 October 2005, 11:38 »
Decided that I need a bee sting aerial instead of the "not very attractive" wing mounted one I have at the mo. Thing is, how easy is it to convert to a beesting? Is it a case of running the aerial lead under the headlining or something? Also, would I be able to get a blanking plug or similar once the wing mount aerial is removed? (Obviously the ideal would be for the hole to be filled/plated/smoothed/painted, so a plug would be a temporary measure..............

the best bit is drilling the hole in the roof! mark out where you want it with masking tape then drill a small pilot hole, a 1/8 drill bit is best for this.**make sure the headlining inside the car is away from the roof otherwise you'll end up drilling straight through it. i tucked a fag packet in there**. then you need a hole cutter, the cone shaped thingy which goes into the drill. when you drilled it to the right size put a small amount of paint on the bare metal to stop rust and use silicone seal around the base when clamping the aerial to the roof. then all you have to do is run the cable along the roof to the front pillar and down the front pillar to the radio.

How do you get it to go down the front pillar?? I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but was going to run the cable underneath the roof rubber, and straight into the wing....? Good idea or not?

when you've fed the cable through the roof lining to the front pillar, undo the top screw and pull the plastic trim off. it should have a clip about half way down as well. run it down there into the dash and then put the cover on. job done
if you take the roof rubbers off and do it that way you might have some problems in putting them back on. last time a changed one it took about an hour or so

Why not get an aerial that sits inside the wing out of sight....nice and smooth
08.03.10 - 3, maybe 4 weeks, and I want my golf back on the road!

I remember my old XR3i had the aerial in the rear window - I suppose Ford have to have a good idea every now and then! Rustproofing would have been a better idea though! LOL
