Interior Decisions, please please help!
« on: 17 October 2005, 17:02 »
Hi guys. I'm having real trouble deciding what I want. I'm getting my mk1 re trimmed at MJ Interiors. First of all I was going to have full leather in black and dark grey, now I'm thinking a cool cloth all over would look great. I want to try and keep my car as original as poss.

My interior

Does anyone have any pics of cloth interiors? Does anyone think that having everything (seat backs/ headrests/ doorcards & seats) covered in cloth would look too much? This is the kind of cloth I was thinking about but in a darker grey:

Please help, any advice would be greatly apprectated. Thanks, Gemma

I personally like full leather interiors (doorcards a must  ) but if you want to keep it original it's maybe not the way to go but it will not detract from it's value. MJ has a good reputation so why not have a chat to him and maybe he might give you some ideas that you'd not thought of, he's the professional.

Where in Leeds are you then Gem ? I'm up that way.  There's a meet in Yeadon on Sunday if you're interested.

Garforth, East Leeds. I work Sundays but I'll try and get there. I have spoken to MJ about Leather and cloth, He can do either. I don't think he wants to make the decision for me and I am so undecided. I think I'm going to go for Full leather in a dark grey. Can't find any good cloth samples or any examples of mk1 cloth interiors. I'm worried plain leather will look boring but worried full cloth will look too much. AAAGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Hello, Full leather he quoted me roughly £1250 thats for all seats, door cards, and I'm getting my sub and amps re wired in the boot (by someone MJ knows) and MJ is then covering the boot too. (Not sure if this is included in the £1250 but I think it is). I flicked through his album of interiors but they were mostly leather, I can imagine what this will look like, its the cloth I'm having trouble imagining with my seats. I don't remember seeing any cloth pics in his album. The only nice cloth interior I have seen in a mk1 golf is in this one at the vw festival in leeds:

But it has different front seats to mine with no headrests and I want to keep my seats. Anyone seen any pics of mk1 golfs with a re trim in cloth? Or anyone know any good websites to look at with big pics? Cheers

Why not get a half and half trim, keep the seat and back as a cloth, and then get the bolsters leathered, and keep with the door cards getting leathered along with what ever else. That way you have best of both worlds.

Edit: also get to the leeds meet, will be nice to have another good looking mk1 there.

Gem, I'm a numpty as I remember asking you where you were from the other day !  :embarassed:

To get to Yeadon you just need to follow the signs for the airport as it's literally on the road to the airport and its a Brewsters pub called Yeadon Stoops.

It's not a UK site but this is the only site I know off that will have pics of various interiors --> http://dana.ucc.nau.edu/~kaw5/interiors.htm

Edit: also get to the leeds meet, will be nice to have another good looking mk1 there.

Alex, you are a cheeky tw*t because you know fine well mine will be there !
