DRL change the look?

I have the iq matrix lights. The drl is the line and then the U sort of shape below that.
The thing is I have seen other models with just the lines lit up without the lower part? How is this I asked the VW showroom I bought the car from and they did not help. Even saw a car leaving the car park with just the line lit up on each light and said “like that car”. They no idea.
Can’t find anything about it online. Every model shows the same as mine but I have seen so many with the line only.

It’s in the day and there is no other light on at all.  Plus I can only use auto because if put side lights on or anything else in the day soon as go over 6mph auto just goes back on.

What sort of Mk8 do you have?

If I'm right in my understanding that is because the Life, Active,Style and R-Line Models have the standard LED lights which is denoted by the single line, the Performance Golfs get the LED matrix lights which include sweeping indicators (where the line is) and the lower daytime running lights.

So as Fred says its model deprendant

Mind you, that's not to say you can't spec IQ lights on a Life...

Yep mine is like the bottom pic, but the top one is not how I have been seeing them.  They have no other lights on at all, I have had them behind me in the mirror and they literally have just the line lit up.  I must have see about 6 cars with them like that in the last month.  I thought the car must have had a drl option in settings. But there’s nothing there.  It’s so strange.  I’ll have to try get a pic of one next time I see

There is no setting to turn off the U portion of the DRL its just the nature of the IQ lighting set up and to differentiate them from the standard LED lights DRLs

Yeah that’s the one. Just the top line.   Thanks for letting me know it’s the standard leds.  How the VW showroom did not know this blows my mind. 😂.  I thought there must be a setting.  I like the line but defo like the iq look more.
