 a couple of weeks ago my wife Treated herself to a bottle of baileys whilst doing the weekly shop,
However she drove home with the bottle unsecured in the boot, suprise suprise ( it’s not her fault there must of been something wrong with the bottle ) ffs  I ended up with a litre of Irish cream soaked into the carpet under the spare wheel,
I’ve cleaned it the best I can but Jesus it stinks, can anyone recommend a good sanitiser or if not a marriage councillor

Are you sure she didn’t have a little lunchtime tipple ??!! But no seriously, a wet vac shampoo machine would sort that in no time. Something like a Bissell spotclean pro. They are a brilliant little machine and are good for carpets in the home too so easy to justify. That drink needs to be extracted or else your shopping and jackets will smell like baileys for years !!

I’ve had the spare wheel out and hand scrubbed the carpet a couple of times and tried to clean out under the carpet as best I can, will look into a wet vac and give it another go, thanks

Would you not think of completely removing the carpet from underneath the spare wheel temporarily so that it doesn't mature in the summer heat?

If you can remove it I'd just soak it in some mild all purpose cleaner then powerhose it, then cover in baking soda (It's a natural odour remover) and leave in the sun to dry.

or buy a new one if it gets very funky (Part No. 5G6863007E)

Thanks I was thinking possible replacement carpet as worse case scenario hopefully it’s not to difficult a job to remove and replace,
I’ve had the spare wheel out over the weekend and found the carpet covered in mould, cleaned it of as best I could and also a small tray of bicarbonate in for a few days.
