"Norwich Union, which insures one car in every seven, is removing the provision called "driving other cars" (DOC) that allows motorists to drive cars belonging to other people if they have the owner's permission.

It says the clause is abused, enabling drivers to buy cover for a small car and then use high performance vehicles belonging to friends and family that they would not normally be able to get insurance for.

But others in the industry say the change could lead to more uninsured drivers on the road because people will continue to use vehicles they do not own, either because they have to, or because they do not understand the change.

if all insurers decide to follow suit ill just fook it off all together and get a traders policy again.... less hassle...

admittedly there are people who use this term of insurance as 'cover' for them to drive a car which they pretend isnt theres etc... ive done it short term when ive bought a car from some where and driven it back home etc. but if my drive any other car bit of my policy was removed, unless there was a substantial drop in premium they id tell em what to do with it......

if all these tw@ts that are driving around without insurance pulled there fingers out of there scrote backsides none of this would be happening.... glad im not with norwich union but if it follows suit most peeps will end up like it...

But aren't most DOCs third party only ?  :undecided: Dont know about anyone else, but if I insured a sh1tter and then drove around in my Porsche (registered in my cat's name  ) on TP then I'd be bricking it.  :undecided:

What the insurance company really mean is that they are not getting as much money out of policies as they want, at the end of the day even if these people are pulling a fast one they are at least insured.
......now officially dubless.

yer your correct mate it is only 3rd party cover on the other vehicle but alot of companies now have a clause that says that the other vehicle must be insured also(in the current owners name), its only norwich union that are saying there going to remove it altogether.

i used to have a traders policy about 8 years ago, £800 ish it was, but that was fully comp on one main car, then any other vechiles were covered whilst on my land and for driving for business purposes... it also covered peeps for test drives too, which was handy when i was sellin a car a week and going to auctions and stuff...
