exhaust centre
« on: 17 October 2005, 10:27 »
hi all,
got a slight problem, yesterday went over an damn speed bump to fast and split the centre section of the exhaust. when to my local exhaust specialist and he says it going to be £210 for a stainless steel centre?!?. the exhaust at the mo is not stainless steel.

i was just woundering how important is the centre section. cause its not the cat, and im thinking it just restricts the car? plus it would work out cheaper if i can just weld another pipe on and bypass the cente bit.

you thoughs please. (maybe i should get the council to pay... it was there speed bump?!?)

hi that price for that  centre is way to much.
if it is the pipe after the cat you can put a straight through pipe in place of it ,mine is
you could get genuine full exhaust for that amount.
looks like he is trying to get some cash out of you.
try another exhaust place .
you could always get yourself a second hand stainless steel exhaust off ebay.
it would only cost about 120 quid and 40 quid to fit.
i got myself a brand new jetex full stainless exhaust from edition 38 for 240.
dont go back to that bloke no matter what.

I had the centre box on my Mk2 taken out by a small exhaust place near here (after I had nearly pulled the fecka off on my drive) they charged me £50 to put a straight thru stainless steel pipe in it's place...made a small difference that's noticeable higher up the rev range!
08.03.10 - 3, maybe 4 weeks, and I want my golf back on the road!

If you mean the big centre box before the back box, that keeps the noise down....

its after the cat, and befroe the backbox. does it make a great difference to the exhaust noise?

i have a sebring backbox which is pretty loud already, and because i do motorway drivng i dont want to make it too loud.

plus if i remove it there is less chance of me hitting it on a speed bump again.

it will make it a little louder , ive only got rear and middle boxes and it isnt loud on my car,
if you just put a straight through pipe in place of it it will stop you hitting speed bumps,
your car must be realy low for it to hit the bumps in the first place,
or is it that the spead bumps are like everest where you live.

Hi
i had the middle box taken off my mk3 it did make it a bit louder but not too excessive it only cost £40 for them to weld a piece of stainless steel pipe in its place.
