HELP!! my 16v wont idle
« on: 17 October 2005, 09:25 »
Ok, I got in my car this morning as usual. Started her up and it cut out straight away....so I gave it another go..same again.

Then I tried holding the throttle open a bit and it started fine and ran sweet as usual, as soon as I let off the throrrle and the revs dipped to 1000rpm and below it cut out...I had to drive to work keeping the revs above 1000rpm at every junction...very annoying and quite tricky when your braking aswell!!

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what to look fot at lunch before I start kicking stuff??

Sounds like it's either the ISV, on the side of the manifold, should buzz with ignition on and angine on, or the throtle micro switch which activates the isv!

in the engine bay rev the engine over 2500rpm constantlly and press the switch with a screw driver, the revs should drop!

Ok...I've had a look and the ISV is buzzing away as usual the whole time...I got my mate to hold the revs above 2500rpm whilst I pushed the throttle switch and nothing happened!! I guess that means I need to replace the switch??

Yes mate, check it 3500rpm aswell, i can't rember now, but it does sound like the switch has had it! where are you based? as i have a spare i could lend you just to make sure as they close to £40 new!

I'm in Banbury...I'll check it at 3500rpm in a bit but the switch didn't do a thing at 2500rpm and I wouldn't have thought it would be any different higher up would it?

Not sure, just do it to be safe :)

Could be the switch, could still be the isv or the isv module behind the center console, this is like the controll centre (basic computer) of the isv! - i have a spare one of these also!
