Pretty much the conclusion we expected on a 19"" wheel car?

Does that make a non DCC 19" car a difficult sell on the secondhand market?

What about with an 18" wheel choice? I'm torn, I feel as though I need DCC for future resale value but dont really want 19s, they're too big and we have too many potholes in the Northumberland.

Because the 18s are a bit ugly, I now feel I need to get 19s and DCC arghghhhhhh  or just dont bother and get 18s and no dcc? Who knows?

My incoming car has the 18" wheels and my outgoing car has the 18" wheels I don't mind the look of either. Andrew from Volkswizard and other reviews I've read have also said that the standard car even on 19's rides reasonably well. I'd have liked DCC but didn't personally want to wait for a full factory build.

I also prefer the fact that even a top spec tyre on the 18" rim will cost less than £100 a corner

The price of 18” tyres is a bonus on the richmonds definitely.

I’m due a test drive tomorrow so see what they say, a 4 month order window is ideal for me. Still keep looking at an R though.

I tested a gti on eighteens... Its fine without dcc.

Only I hated those wheels and so got one with adelaides... And was scared enough to order dcc too...

Give me the predictability of passive dampers any day.

But yes, the Internet says you need DCC despite Andrew complimenting the passive ride quality on several other videos he’s done.
Seriously, if the Internet says you need DCC then spec it because it’ll probably pay for itself over your ownership period.
The Internet also says your R needs drift mode. And exactly how many owners will ever use it? Maybe the baseball cap wearing third owners who have dropped the suspension, fitted weird offset wheels and an ECU tune that sounds like a fireworks display out of the quad pipes.

Exactly!

People get too hung up, obsessing over what they should, or shouldn’t buy, based around the views of internet experts. My MK7 was on 19s without DCC, and it was fine. The MK8 has a more sophisticated suspension set up, so I have no hesitation to fit 19s to mine, despite no DCC. Which is what I’m doing as I write this. Will it affect trade in value in a few years? Not so much that you’ll notice.

I did find it interesting that Mr Volkswizard talked about the ride being a bit harsh on his passive dampers in that video. I’m sure that beforehand he’d always said that the ride was ok. I don’t always pay attention though so I might well be wrong. Perhaps it’s just the direct comparison that made him think that.

After having golfs with and without dcc i can assure you that even between consecutive ownership you don't notice the difference... Sure you can make it wallowy or teeth shaking, but where do you normally put it? In the middle.

If you wanted a rock hard or softer than Walter the softie car, maybe a gti isn't for you...

My R is on passive dampers and there are times when I just find it a little harsh. Not very often though. I think I could do with driving a CS on DCC really. Then again, I could probably do with just driving a CS.

Fred, you make a good point. A gti is a golf so will be somewhere in the middle anyway.
