Which dashcams does everyone use? Is there one that's significantly better than others in terms of quality etc? When you wire them in are they just plugged into a piggyback fuse into the fusebox, or wired in some other way?

I'd like to get one that records while parked but not sure if that's a good idea given how long my car is left parked lately! Might drain the battery too much. I don't know enough about it.

Mine has a built in battery which charges when the ignition is on and is essentially on standby when ignition is off. When it detects the car moving it turns on for 20-30 seconds and then goes back off. That one (along with 3 others I've fitted) were fitted with a piggyback fuse. But they do sell kits that allow you to wire them to the cars battery. They have a device built in to the wiring kit which reads the battery voltage and turns the dashcam off once it drops to a certain voltage

I’m running the Thinkware F770 hardwired front/rear kit. Used piggyback fuses as you say and very straight forward install.

As it’s hardwired it’ll record when parked and you can set the battery level to shut off if it drops below that setting to stop any further drain.

As above and never had battery issues.

I'm about a week into researching dashcams and from what I've gathered the Viofo A119 v3 is about the best value for money option you can get.

It's just a bit unsightly imo. I'll probably end up going for it tbh.

Same for me too. Got one each in mine and the wife's car. One set has been in 2 cars over 5 years, the other has been in 3 cars to date. Never missed a beat. My parking monitoring doesn't last long these days because I'm only doing 80-100.miles a week and 65 miles of that is in one hit on my weekly commute to the office, so thebattery cut out is usually pretty quick after parking up on the short journeys.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I bought the Thinkware battery pack for mine Matt, haven't fitted it yet though.

Here's clip of what happened on my way to work this morning. Also gives you an idea of what my camera see's set to the left of the mirror. There is no sound. (Ignore the date and time, I can't get the camera to accept the correct date and time).
