New mk8 on nineteens comes with Hankook Ventus S1evo3. Might be worth looking at those.

Yeah, been on various ‘s’ Audi’s for a while now. Had them on a previous golf as well and they were excellent.

But its all about rim protection too, any ideas if they have a good amount?

Eagle F1 Asy 5. Good rim protection and a great all round tyre, especially in the wet. And my GTi is stage 1 map 300bhp

Get 4 Michelin PS4S and be done with it.
These things are fitted as standard to the A45S and GR Yaris Circuit Pack amongst other very notable cars.
Michelin always have some sort of offer on bringing the cost of the 4S down to GYE F1 levels.

And yes, 4 tyres not 2.
Sell the Kunhos on eBay or if you have a friend who owns an oil tanker donate them to that so they can be hung on the port side where they’ll do their best work.

I used to be the worlds biggest sceptic about certain performance tyres and the hype surrounding them. Then I bought a set of PS4S for my Clubsport and happily ate my words.

When it come to getting new tyres on my GTi I'm torn between either the Eagle F1 Asy 5's or PS4's. I do very little miles each year but feel like I need something better

I'm not sure what tyres I have on the rear off the top of my head, but when I bought the car it needed new ones on the front. The garage put "CatchForce" tyres on the front 225/40ZR18. I don't have a clue what they are? Don't know if anyone knows?
They're not half bad but they do lose grip quite easily if I put my foot down in the wet or even just damp conditions

My first car over 200bhp so I need to start learning this stuff about tyres I think

Bearing in mind the UK roads are at the very least damp 99.8% of the time it’s wise to get decent rubber that can handle the spiralling power outputs of modern hot hatches.
Most things will do on a 1.2 litre Vauxhall Mocha but a GTI or R deserves something able to transmit the power and chassis development onto damp tarmac. With high powered cars the tyres can make an awful lot of difference.

Same with us, we only do around 3000 miles per year and the Michelins are just too expensive as im having my alloys painted too, actually saying that Michelin have £75 off 4 tyres right now which makes them the same price as the F1's as you said

They’re probably Windforce Catchfors - Chinese tyres.

You can see the rim protection on this pic.

I got mine from Black Circles and had them fitted when the wheels were done... saved a bunch
