Oh joy, that 12 months came round quick.

I’ll keep repeating to myself “it’s only £12 a week, it’s only £12 a week, it’s only… “

I tried to get some sympathy from one of my colleagues but all I got was “my mk5 is £400 a year to tax and the car’s only worth about £400”
I should have felt a bit better hearing that but unfortunately I didn’t.

Rather annoyingly, I suppose he did have a point!

“It’s just £12 a week, just £12 a week”

About the same amount as the monthly payments on an MG4 XPOWER which is only £4 a week to tax

Aren’t retired gentlefolk supposed to do 2k a year down the the shops and back once a week Watts? 😁

Strange that, full time employed OH's new Fiat only managed 2.5k miles in it's first year....

Does she work from home?

She does quite a bit of wfh but also for the first few months we had the car she couldn't drive due to an injury. Having said that, her previous car, a Lupo, she owned from new for 22 years and only covered 55k miles. Which is an exact average of 2.5k miles...

I do about twice that a year now (semi-retired now and work about 3 miles away from home so try and walk it as much as I can) so most of my mileage is holiday stuff.

Not like back in 1992/93 when I had a mk3 Cavalier 1.6L and had to travel over the north of the UK including as far north as Dundee and travel to West London most weeks. Gearbox went pop at about 120k and it was about 21 months old. Great car though.

I’m retired and do a similar annual mileage to you Adam. It’s also walking for me locally (better for me and kinder to the environment than driving) unless I have something large and / or heavy to transport, and on those occasions I will use the car.

It makes me smile when I read posts on forums of people being disappointed with their fuel consumption when they use their cars for predominantly short journeys, and the GPF seems to be constantly going through a forced / active regenerations……………..

I was a Vauxhall ‘aficionado’ and owned 6 from 1988 - 2002. I agree with you on the mk3 Cavalier. I never owned one (I had a mk2), but I had a mk3 a few times as a courtesy car and IMHO it seemed a big step up from the mk2. IMHO Vauxhall made some very good performance cars in the 1990’s (e.g. Cavalier 4x4 turbo, Calibra 4x4 Turbo, Nova GSI and Astra GSI, Lotus Carlton).

Apologies all for my ramblings and for going off topic :embarrassed:.

Once threw a Astra GSI around the Millbrook Proving ground when it was launched, was epic, it's what influenced me to eventually get an Astra VXR, was a fun, interior was a little lacking, but otherwise a great motor. Not a patch on the Clubsport though
