Wow, that is shocking!!

Well, since I asked the question, I remembered that I still had a bottle of silver touch-up paint (from my previous reflex-silver MK8), and I dabbed a tiny bit of that onto the trim... and its 95% fine now tbh!

You'd definitely need to be looking hard for it to spot it, so I don't think I'll be asking the dealers to rip the dashboard asunder to replace it.

I also think I may have caused the problem in the first place. I didn't have the car long when I realised that if you remove the rubber mat from that cubby, then your phone fits much better and charges more reliably. But, I believe there's always air blowing from that cubby (to cool the phone) and I'm thinking maybe that stream of air caused the paint on that strip to lift a bit. Just a theory... I've refitted the rubber mat now anyway.

February 14th is all about lavishing attention on the one you love so I treated mine to a spa day.
Admittedly I’m too tight to pay for professionals so it was a DIY affair, and I stopped short of using snow foam or even a 2nd bucket for the first bathing session in about two months. It’s the thought that counts though.
Floods, mud, salt, rain, more rain and even a few splashes of seawater meant the paintwork was absolutely gopping.

I know I’m the worlds most boring person but 3 R’s in and I’ve never launched any of mine.

It’s Sod’s Law! I cleanse mine and wife’s car today over a few hours and I reckon it’ll look worse after the weekend than when I started  :undecided:
Prior - MK2 GTi Big Bumper in White
Current - MK8 GTi Clubsport in Moonstone Grey
(Plus Many other non-Golf hot-hatches in-between!)

Yesterday we had a nice day out but as my CS was blocked in, we took my OH's Fiat 500. 150 mile roundtrip, 50/50 motorway/A roads from west London down to East Sussex/Kent border. The Fiat (1.0 mild hybrid) is not a bad drive with a great 6 speed manual box and can maintain speed around bends pretty well but, any uphills at speed were a real pain, foot to the floor and it was still losing speed so a fair bit of cog swapping going on. Ride is rather fidgety too which I suppose is the 25+ year old chassis design. Overall though it was quite good fun.

Today we got the CS out. Another longish run and a far more sophisticated ride plus the joy of being able to overtake without having to plan it in advance! One thing though that I've not encountered before was it erroneously thought we were about to crash and our seatbelts tightened up. Was a bit of a shock! They loosened off very quickly but it was all a bit OTT.

As good as the 500 is for the money, you can see where your money goes in a Golf. A very good two car combo though.

Mine hit it's first 10k miles today and will be 1 in a couple of days. I've put 8.4k miles on it and it has been excellent.

Booked it in for it's first service this morning and had a nice surprise, it has a service plan in place! Two free services, brilliant!

I believe that may be part of the proactive passenger protection inside the front assist ADAS. I've been driving my dad's new Dacia Duster Hybrid recently, and my the grace of god, it has a 1 button to take all the ADAS off. It like a routine from the Golf. Get in > seat belt > engine > lock door > turn autostart off > drive.

How on earth do you have a free service plan, and where do I get me one of those  Perhaps you've already paid for it upon when you got your car?

I can only assume that the first owner paid albeit unlikely as he is a serial swapper of cars every few months. So possibly it was a VW offer or the garage added it in. Very odd but no complaints here!
