I've seen something like that before. Those air fresheners are deadly, whatever substance is in them is very corrosive to interior plastics especially in heat. Hateful things, get rid of it!
I know that an owner’s lifestyle can be responsible for unwanted odours in a car - e.g. transporting pets, liquid spillages etc. However, I’d never use one of those air fresheners.
I have a strict rule of no drinking and no eating in my car and I don’t have pets to transport, so I’m lucky that my car smells pretty much as fresh as it did when I bought it. Sadly, after four years of ownership, the new car smell has long since disappeared though.
@BillSan; you might be able to get the damage repaired; some companies specialising in end of vehicle lease cosmetic repairs prior to returning the vehicles to the leasing company also do interior repairs (plastics, seats etc.) as well as the usual paintless dent removal work. Might be worth researching if there are any such companies in your area.
