Windscreen Residue

Take a look at the picture, i just cannot get these marks off, i have tried allsorts of cleaners, Tardis, autoglym, toothpaste , barkeepers, and steelwool, they wont budge, the sucker marks and the long drag type marks, so annoying ...

I have them on mine and I think they’ve been on the front or rear (or both) screen on pretty much every car I’ve had during the last 20 years or so.

They’re only visible if windows are misted up. Once any mist has cleared, you can’t see them so they don’t affect visibility while driving, therefore they don’t bother me.

If it does bother you, you could try claying the screen (use plenty of lubricant so the clay doesn’t ‘drag’ on the glass). You could also try methylated spirits, but be careful not to get it on your paintwork. There’s no guarantee either of these methods will work though.

Yea its annoying, i could probably live with the circles as they fade away, its the lines running down the screen that i need to shift, no idea whats caused them, something at the factory?

I still see these residue marks on our 10 year old Polo GTI, they are very stubbon, but personally has never bothered me.

We had something not too dissimilar on our A6 when we got it and nothing would get rid of it.

Ultimately I was relieved when a stone chip necessitated a new screen.
