Take a barf bag or try not to look, just get straight in and drive lol.

You should have fun though, it's got to be a hoot to drive.

I don’t think they look so hideous there either. I saw a video presentation of a similar one earlier this week from GTI world in Edinburgh and also thought it looked “acceptable”.

There is an awful lot of Matt black plastic on that front bumper though and I’m not decided if i love that or not.
MK8.5 GTI Clubsport. Moonstone grey. Queenstown 19’s. DCC. Harmon Kardon sound. Pano roof.

Test drove an Atlantic Blue one the other day and wheels looked ok. Maybe they work better with some colours and not others. Speaking of wheels, saw a pic of a new white GTE on Carwow and that looked hideous - may have been 17s....

Clubsport test drive done

In a nutshell - it’s a TCR with the Akrapovic as standard, which is not surprising.

If you’ve driven a TCR, the clubsport is basically the same under the skin, but the ride is harder. Car had standard 18”s no DCC and it’s fairly solid. This is from someone who drives a no DCC GTI PP with 19”s daily.

Power delivery is great, noise is fantastic. A really deep grunt with pops, sounds very very similar the akrapovic on the TCR/ R (I’ve driven both before). Brakes are great again, same as TCR.

Interior is awesome, seats are fantastic and a massive step up from the 7.5 seats. Buttons on the steering wheel are fine, I don’t get the hate for them at all.

3 things - 1.  no start stop button, you have to dig into the menu to turn it off every time absolute PITA   2. You can’t flick the DSG stick to manual, you have to press one of the paddles - fine, but what if I want to flick to manual on the paddles but not change gear at the same time and stay in the current gear?
3. 100% confirmation from the sales manager a hotter version is coming called ED45 or cup, they don’t know which or when. They have no idea on what it will have, such as anymore more power, manual etc they just know it’s coming

Enjoyed reading your thoughts there. My R has 19s and no DCC which I find absolutely fine after having various GTIs without it too. Looks like the Mk8 will need it.

Good to hear about the Cup/Ed45. It’ll probably be way more than I want to pay for a car though!

Same boat as me - I don’t mind my 19”s with no DCC but that clubsport was harder. Also I should say, they expect the hotter version to be R or even more money.

If it was R money I’d be pleasantly surprised. Glad I’m not due to change yet!!

Nice analysis Clarky!

Harder than the tcr... Hmm that's not good news for UK roads. I think that's definitely the end of the clubby for me. I don't want a track focused car for my daily driver and adding dcc AND swapping to non oem 18's is a step too far for me. Basic gti with options is a better choice for me.
