Interesting is the tempature guage supposed to read 55 degrees when the car has not been used and just turned the ignition on, usually needle just sits on the stop?, i.e. water temp must be 16 degrees, as it has not been run since yesterday. Would this point to more of a radiator temp probe issue?

£654 at the independant place using genuine parts, VW wanted £1050. Although rang late yesterday to say the pump is on back order.

Thats not bad, the part is about 400 quid I think... and its probably going to take 3-4 hours to fit.

Sounds about right - so VW main dealer prices are about 150 an hour for labour, your local indy garage its 50.

When you break it down like this, you can see how these bills skyrocket...
