Rear Caliper issue.
« on: 03 November 2020, 17:45 »
(Hi i have had my golf GTD for 5.5 years, 92000 miles. its been great and i have been lurking in the back ground of this forum. which has helped me in a few ways, so thanks in advance for any replys.)

Im having an issue with my GTD mk7 rear caliper sticking/grabbing. i have been noticing the car squating when acelerating from a stop, I thought I will get that looked at but monday morning the right rear brake was smoking slitghtly and smelling like i had been on a track day.
I called the local independent Vw specialist however they are booked up for 2 week. (they are good) so i have taken it to a garage who takes care of our company vans.

They have suggested it needs 2x rear calipers and its a vw dealer part, which will be silly money. £900 or so.

So my question, is this an know issue,  and whats the best rear caliper to replace them with?

Not very common, but they are brake calipers after all.
What's gone wrong?

Refurb kits are available aftermarket as well.

Ive got a Mk7 GTD as well and when I plug my registration number into www.brakeparts.co.uk it comes up with Budweg rear calipers at £188 each plus refundable surcharge for the 272mm solid rear discs. I think thats just a rebuilt caliper but way cheaper than the dealer.

On my 64 plate they are solid, 272mm I believe.

Hi mate

I would download the Autodoc app and have a look at what prices they have. Two rear callipers discs and pads are straight forward to fit. A quick look I found electronic rear callipers non painted for £184 each. Buy replacement callipers. Less hassle and fuss.
